Baby Showers

Co-ed shower wording?

My SIL is throwing a baby shower for DH and I, and I would feel more comfortable having a more laid back get-together for our friends and family. We decided to call it a couples shower because that's what made the most sense to me, but when a few of DH's friends got word of this "couples shower" they insisted on having a diaper party for DH instead on the same day and swear that no guys would want to come to anything called a couples shower.

The only other thing I can think of is changing the wording on the invite to say "baby shower"  and then possibly include a seperate card, inviting the guys to diaper party (which are very common in my area- the guys bring a package of diapers and beer is provided) at the same time/location.

Does anybody have any other suggestions? SIL isn't really sure what to do either.

Re: Co-ed shower wording?

  • We are having a co-ed shower/party too. We are both into sports and are going with a sports theme shower.

My friend has the invites right now, but they say something like:

'The Smith family is drafting a new player, please join us in a co-ed shower honoring Robert and Rebecca.' then it goes on with the details about the shower. The background of the are on baseball paper, i'm really bad at describing things but they came out really cute.

We got the idea from this site, but are not using any of their invitations.

  • Mine just said co-ed shower, and it worked out well.  My mom had it in the back room at a nice sportsbar, and the guys were able to drink and watch sports by the bar, while the women opened gifts.

  • The guys are going to a special "Diaper" shower instead of a couples' shower? That's too funny I think.

You can use wording like this:

    Let?s shower them with love...
You are cordially invited to a Couples Baby Shower for

    or

    Love, joy, and wonderful dreams....
All the sweet things their new baby will bring.
Please join us in a couples baby shower honoring

I got that from Baby Cachet website. They have cute couple shower invites too if you're interested.

Sorry, but the wording ideas here sound like a nightmare obligatory party for most guys I know. Even the most empathetic ones. Love, joy, and wonderful dreams sounds like a warm nap in clouds of fluffy love or something.
