...about Wrestling? I?m talking about the WWE on TV type of wrestling. DH and I just got into an argument about it. He?s watching it and I think that it is so fake and ridiculous and I said that once we have kids they won?t be allowed to watch it. And he got all pissy with me saying well why don?t you just lock them up and not let them watch TV? I have no problem with TV and I?m not going to shelter them in a bubble, I just don?t see any need for them to watch that crap trash TV. Am I being ridiculous?

Re: What are your thoughts...
I think TV is only okay in moderation, for kids and adults. I would definitely want to limit their exposure to dumb stuff like that, but if DH were really into it and wanted to bond with our future kids while watching it, I wouldn't be opposed, as long as they were an appropriate age to see all the crazy stuff.
Your DH watches it and he turned out okay, right?
My hubby loves WWE. It was something he grew up watching with his parents and so he continues to watch it. Sure he knows its fake but it's his soap opera. My mom grew up watching soaps and as a result so did I. Half the crap on those shows is inappropriate for kids too. So I guess what I am saying is sometimes watching our favorite show is less about the program itself than it is about the meaning of it...sometimes its nostalgia sometimes its an escape or whatever else they need it to be...whether it's WWE or All My Children or whatever nine times out of ten our kids are going to get drawn into some tv show that we like just because we like it much the same way they'll get drawn into other things just because we like it... it's actually kind of sweet I think...
I can see your point though in not wanting to allow them to watch it but at the same time,as they get older, if they want to watch it, they're going to watch it...I guess the best we can do is try to intercept some of the crazy messages they'll receive....
I applaud your lofty aspirations to shelter your future LO's from horrible TV, however I think there are worse offenders out there that once they get old enough (approx 7-12) who knows of wrestling will still be the same and if they want to watch it and you don 't let them, a friends house probably will.
I get what you are saying though, good luck!

I agree it's totally dumb, but most everything on TV is dumb. I figure, it's entertainment, and everyone has different ways they like to be entertained. Whether it's WWE or Survivor or NCIS, it doesn't really matter, because it's all fake.
I will step out a little bit on the WWE and MMA stuff because of the violence. Personally, I would curb a child from watching it more from that perspective than because it's not very good TV.
This. We don't watch wrestling.
I don't care if a future child likes it though. I know when DH was young he liked it...

I am not a fan of wrestling. I don't watch it, I have no interest in watching it - live or on TV.
DH used to be right into it when he was younger - he's 8 years older than his twin brothers and I know he used to put all of the wrestling moves on them when they were all younger. Not cool!
I think wrestling just adds unnecessary violent ideas to a child's mind. I think it's trash, right up there with Maury!
I don't think you are being ridiculous at all.
