Anyone give their LO meat?

I was told by the pedi i can start introducing meat. How does your LOs like it? Do you buy the jars of meat or make it yourself? If you make it, what do you do, just put it in the food processor?

Re: Anyone give their LO meat?

  • Ares eats whatever meat we are eating as a family. I just crush it up into tiny pieces for him.

  • I first tried baking chicken and pureeing it. That was a huge FAIL. I then tried shredding chicken and he was ok with that as long as he could pick it up himself. He still is really picky about meats. I have tried some jar meats and he liked that.

  • I've only given her meat once, but we'll start giving her more in a few weeks.  I gave her a few shreds of chicken from some I had made.  She did very well with it, I just made sure it was in tiny pieces.
  • Thanks.

  • We give DD jarred meat and meat that we are eating.  She has had chicken, beef, pork and turkey.  So far, she loves all of, even the jarred stuff!  If it isn't jarred, I just give her small pieces, I do not use a food processor.

  • When we were feeding pureed foods I just did the Earth's Best for everything.  When we started transitioning to chunky foods and now finger foods, he just eats what we eat.  I cut it up in small pieces.  Tonight when had Slow Cooker Beef Stew.  I took out a couple pieces of beef, potatoes and carrots, cut them up and put them on the tray.  When he was eating mushed foods I would just mash them with a fork.  Unfortunately he never did like homecooked pureed foods, that's why we did Earth's Best.

  • MUNCHKIN has this little take-along food grinder that I've been using and it's wonderful. I was feeding my DD Earths Best but she was also snaking on cherrios. So while I made my oldest hotdogs and veggies  I put it all in the grinder for the little one and she loved it!
  • H gets a fruit/cereal in the morning, veggie/cereal in the afternoon and a pureed meat/fruit in the evening. He will ONLY eat the pureed meat if we give it to him with some fruit or veggie. I don't think he likes the texture too much. I have tried cutting up chicken really really fine, but he just isn't ready for "finger foods" yet.
