Re: interesting article... wine and pregnancy

  • thoughts?  comments?  judgements?  :-)

I think it's an interesting article and seconded by an article in Time magazine...  I wouldn't partake in one or two glasses per week though.  Just me.  :)

  • I have read several articles that say the issues with alcohol and pregnancy studies has always been the studies are all or nothing, i.e. the test subjects either 100% abstain or are bad drunks/alcoholics. I mean, who is really going to say "Yeah, I'll drink moderately so you can study me and see what happens?"

  • That was posted on first tri last week and had TONS of discussion.

I really don't have an opinion either way, although I am personally choosing to abstain 100%. One glass a week or so probably won't hurt anything, but I know for certain that not drinking at all won't hurt anything either. I'm just not willing to risk anything.

Before my m/c I was planning on still having a glass here and there, but now I just want to take every precaution. It really changed the way I look at this whole conception > motherhood thing.

  • Oh! And congrats on your prenancy Jess! I think I noticed it last week and never posted anything to you.
  • thanks Pook!  :)  you are due on my birthday.  :-)

this little one is due May 3, we'll see if he/she lasts that long.

  • it's just not worth it to me to have one drink while pregnant.  If I can't make it nine months without a drink, I've got bigger problems than just what might happen to the baby.  But then again, I'm very cautious when it comes to alcohol and the kids.  While we have little ones in the house, Josh and I don't drink at the same time and I don't even have one drink and drive with a kid in the car.

i never planned on drinking while pregnant but miscarrying twice made me extra cautious with everything when I was pregnant!

  • I was actually very surprised I didn't have a drink in my third trimester. My doctor told me I could and was all for it.. but said not to tell anyone he told me I could =) but I didn't. I had my first blue moon this weekend and for some reason I thought it was gross. But D did say it tasted funny

I am glad you are able to keep running AND will be doing your first HALF while pregnant! What a great accomplishment!

My goal was to run a half while pg but my doc said noooo. = ( I'm not allowed to do any running right now either. Not being able to work out for the past month has been strange for me, but I also like having the excuse of dr's orders to slack off!

I'm going to follow your blog.
