Happy Monday Ladies!
I was just thinking of the up and coming holiday season and I was wondering what some of your family traditions are and what you are looking most forward to doing/and or starting with your LO's. I love this time of year and I have decided that I am going to make (from scratch) DH's, LO's, and my Christmas stockings. I have not sawed since I was 12, so we will see how that goes. I'm going to pick out the fabric and thread and go from there starting this weekend! ![]()
DH and I are also going to let LO pick out an ornament each year to add to our Christmas tree.
Re: What are your Holiday Traditions?
DH and I started opening our Christmas gifts for each other at night, with only the tree lights on, while sipping champagne. We open gifts with our family earlier in the day, but it gives us time to look forward to our special gifts and alone time. I think we will keep that up now that we have LO, but we will open DS gifts earlier...hoping he goes to bed at a respectable hour!
My mom made my Xmas stocking when I was little, and I have already made my husband one. I bought the kit to make the stocking for DS. I am not sure what you are planning to do, but there are adorable felt kits for making Xmas stockings. It is super easy. I found them at JoAnn Fabrics.
My family also gives an ornament each year, but we don't pick our own out. It is usually representative of something we accomplished that year (ie a car ornament the year I turned 16, a house ornament when I bought a house, a snowboarder when I learned to snowboard). Once I bought my house, my mom gave me all my ornaments to put on my own tree. It is like a timeline of my life every year.
Most of the traditions come from my dad who passed away so they are very important to me.
Dad used to make cinnamon rolls on Christmas Eve night let them rise over night and bake them Christmas morning. We also used to go light crazy on the house and I plan on doing the same for LO and our house. We also open one christmas present on Christmas Eve and the rest Christmas morning.
I am so excited for the holidays it is by far my most favorite time of the year!
We do family gifts on Christmas Eve and go to Midnight Mass. Christmas Morning we have "Santa" gifts and stockings to open.
I grew up in Northern California, and we used to take a day and drive out and cut down our tree, listening to Christmas music and then go home and decorate the house, but now in N. Texas, we don't have tree farms to do it, so we'll probably use a fake tree
My aunt used to take me to the Nutcracker and then Ice Skating in San Francisco every year, and buy me a new nutcracker. I plan to continue this with DD once she is old enough to enjoy it. They do a good production here.
