Babies: 3 - 6 Months

should i try something different, or just be "happy" - re:sleep

At 14 wks DD was sleeping 7:30pm - 7am.
At 4 months she started waking at 4am for a night time feed and would go right back to sleep until 7am.  I could handle that (hard to accept at first since she had been STTN, but I was happy and felt rested)

When she turned 5 mo she would fall asleep at 7:30pm and wake at 5:30am. I feed her and she goes back to sleep but wakes around 6 - 6:15 for the day (sometimes she'll wake at 6:30-7ish). We let her "talk" in her crib until she cries which is prob around 6:45am.  I know that first stretch of sleep is good (10 hours), but she's not ready to get up at that time bc she cries and her eyes are still shut. But she's killing me with this 5:30 wake up time then back to sleep for an hour then up again. I'm exhausted.  I know she can STTN bc she's done it before!

WWYD? Should I try a sleeping method? Should I not feed her at 5:30 and just try to put her back to bed? .....please don't tell me to get up at 5:30am Stick out tongue

  • I don't have a good answer for you...I tend to roll with things because it seems like the harder I try to "fix" them, the more resistance I get.  Maybe it's a phase since she's more aware of her surroundings.  If that's the case, a sleeping method might work. Or maybe the previous schedule was a phase and this is her new routine?  And technically she is STTN still, she's just not sleeping as long.

  • Um, be happy! OMG, if Adi did that, I would be in HEAVEN! If it really bugs you, have you tried putting her to sleep a little later, by 15 minute increments?

  • I vote be happy!  I think it's a minor thing at this point - wait and see if your lo grows out of it.

  • My DD was a "before 6 am riser" until she learned how to read numbers on a digital clock and I could tell her "stay in your room until 7."

    Is she a good napper?

My DS is a great nighttime sleeper, but a crap napper, but I'm enjoying the nighttime sleep!

  • she is a good napper...3 naps the first and last ones are 45 min and the middle one is 1.5

sometime (bc of 1 reason or another) she goes to bed later 8-8:30 and sge still got up at 5:30am

i know i should be happy, but i want it to go back to the way it used to be..6:30-7am!Stick out tongue

  • We have a similar sleep schedule here for the time being (minus the good naps), where DD sleeps from 7:00-5:30 or 6:00, then goes back to sleep and is up for the day between 7:00 and 7:30. I think she probably just to hungry to convince herself to go back to sleep for that last hour with out eating, but she still needs some more night time sleep.
  • I vote be happy. But this is coming from last night from hell and the past few weeks of not so great. Ie fighting her to sleep and it finally happening between 11-12 then up every 2 hours, but thankfully up for the day around 10, but then two 30 min naps. Have you tried putting her in bed with you at 5am? DD always sleeps best when I pull her in with me after DH leaves, we can usually nurse once around 8am and she'll sleep until 10am.
