Just wanted some random internet strangers opinions on the name Ellis.
It was my Dad's middle name and he passed away a year and a half ago. We have a boys name but, I'm really at a loss for girl's names. Last night my sister suggested Ellis. We would probably give her a more feminine middle name.. perhaps Kathleen after DH's mom who passed away a year ago.
So Ellis Kathleen? Or should I just keep praying that this baby's a boy?
Re: WDYT of Ellis?
This was my first thought
It's a decent name, reminds me of Alice (which I love!)
I really like this E, boys name, but on a girl...no.

The Ellis I knew was a young body builder who turned model.

Love the suggestion of Alice. What about Elise? It's my mom's name, and I considered Ellis as a sort of masculine tribute.

Proud mama to a boys- 6/17/09 - a girl 2/23/11- and a boy 8/20/12
This exactly. It's a family surname for me as well, and we considered it as a middle name.
I think it's fine, especially since it's a family name for you. I don't think it flows particularly well with Kathleen, though--although I agree you should pair it with something very feminine.
Hahahahahahaha....okay, I'll back off. And I know; I'm seeing it quite a bit more here. Tell you what, I'll shoot down any suggestions of Elise to make it up to you. 'no, no - it's a terrible name! You're child will get Elsie for the rest of her life' or something like that.

I am sorry for your loss.
I am only familiar with this a a surname. And if anything I would think it would work better as a fn for a boy rather than a girl. I think Kathleen Ellis LN would be preferable.
@ Feffy - No worries!
It's kind of funny. My MIL's first name was Alice, but she hated it. She hated it so much she unofficially changed her name to Kitty. Kathleen was her middle name which she liked
This exactly!
Yeah, I also like it OK for a boy. Don't really like it for a girl, but I think it would be a great MN.
