XP: 8 months and my supply is tanking

Thought I would get more traffic here. Post from BFing Board.

  • Start pumping like a mad woman? Take More Milk Plus?

  • Same boat here, I could barely pump enough for a day of feeding to start and then I started to pump at work and at home to make it by. Combining this with my supply tanking every month before AF arrived and I burned through my freezer stash! Last weekend we started him on one bottle of formula a day. I have been nursing him like crazy on top of that to try and up my supply. I have come to terms with the formula :*( So now I am able to pump enough for 2/3 feedings and I am happy that he gets mostly breastmilk...

I should add I have been taking fenugreek since LO was born and I switched to more milk because of a bumpies suggestion. I am hoping the switch helps my supply and I can get back to EBFing! So far it seems to be working better. I have pumped enought for 2 bottles already and I have one session left today.

  • My supply was tanking all summer, I finally stopped.  I couldn't keep up with her demand and the stress was too much.  I made it 11 months.
  • I think by 4 months your supply is more regulated.  If you rent a hospital grade pump, you would probably up your ounce count and that way you can just pump at work twice.

  • I'm blaming mine on my first PP AF.  OMG.

I'm taking Fenugreek right now, but my stomach is upset (+ cramps) and it doesn't seem to be helping (despite that I've taken in in the past to help with a few small supply issues.)  I'm going to have to try another or an additional supplement.

Extreme dislike for this situation.   :-/

  • I take something called lactate support when I notice a dip in my supply. It works within a day or two to get things back on track.
