TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

RE monitoring appointment today

So I went in today which is CD 11 for a scan and bloodwork to see what the evil 150mg of clomid did for me. My lining is 8 which is good however I was disappointed that I only have 2 follies on my right side (12 and 10.) This is the exact same result I got on 100mg of clomid, which didn't make me an emotional basket case so it might not have been worth it to be on 150 at all. All those tears for nothing! I told my RE about the insomnia and emotional crap I went through and he said if this cycle doesn't work out, we'll go back to 100mg. I asked about injectables and he said that since I have IVF covered by my INS, he doesn't recommend using them. He wants to go straight to IVF if 2 or 3 more IUI's don't work and he said that injectables aren't a good idea if we are going straight to IVF. He also said that a 30 year old woman has a 10% chance for a BFP on IUI and a 50% for one on IVF. Why do I get the feeling that he is mentally preparing me for IVF.... Sorry for the block post I'm on my iPhone...

Re: RE monitoring appointment today

  • I'm sorry. I'd be disappointed too if the result was the same. I'm glad your lining held up though. I don't understand your doctors reasoning for use of the injectables but I'm not a doctor. Hopefully, you won't have to worry about any other cycles after this one.

  • I really don't understand why he won't just use femara if he is against injectibles.  I had exactly the same s/e as you, and femara is a dream.  If I were you I would ask for sure.

On a side note, the 10% thing makes this 32 y/o want to kill myself as I gear up for my first IUI.  I don't have IF insurance coverage and probably won't ever do IVF OOP. Crying

He confused me a bit too but what I took away from it is he would rather not run the risk of producing too many mature follies in an IUI cycle and having to cancel it when I have full coverage for IVF. He said in his patients that do not have IVF coverage, he will do injectables. I get his reasoning and I am ok with it as long as I never have to take 150mg of clomid again. I am just praying this cycle is it for me. 10/31 is my 2nd wedding anniversary which means two years if FTC with only 1 BFP and m/c to show for it. The universe needs to do me a solid...

But femara isn't an injectible.  It is just like clomid, minus the crazy s/e.

I would still ask him about it and see what he says.  I don't know any doctors who don't use it.  The only reason I think some choose clomid first is because it is an older drug, they are used to it, and it costs less.  I really really think you should ask him about it.

Ok sorry I got confused. I know nothing about femera and thought it was an injectable. I'll definitely ask him about it if this cycle is a bust.

  • I'm sorry you didn't get a better result after the increased Clomid, but ::everything crossed:: that those 2 follies are the ones that will give you your sticky baby (or twins!).  GL this cycle!!!

No worries, and I hope you don't need to worry about "next time!"  I just know it was like night and day for me, and since our s/e were so similar I thought it was worth a shot.  GL!

LOL I wondered myself why he has such a hard on for clomid. I really like him though and know lots of people that travel a far distance to see him so I am just going to put my faith in his plan and hope for the best.

  • Sorry the increased dose didn't change the outcome - I also took Femara and didn't think the SEs were bad.  My RE won't do injectibles and IUI with me and I don't have IF coverage - he just doesn't like to do it.

  • Sorry to hear the increased dosage gave you the same results. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is your cycle and you won't have to deal with the clomid again.
