Talk Me Down Re: Laundry... (long)

ok, so I"ll admit it... I haven't gotten my laundry COMPLETELY done since about month 6 of pregnancy.  I mean, my laundry room is in our basement.... I can't tote H and a basket up and down.  My mom watches H during the day and is in the same trap.

It is craziness.

A few weeks ago, I offered my cleaning lady to take her school shopping for her son in exchange for turning out the laundry over a weekend when we were OOT.... she then washed one of DH's VERY expensive suits and dried it.... it would now fit Kermit the Frog.

As such, I abandoned that approach.

Today, I have a friend cleaning my home in anticipation of the big Christening to do this weekend.  She says I need to suck it up and let her take it all to the laundromat and just rock it out in an afternoon.

However, I have a fear of laundromats.  1.  I fear they have other people's dirt in the plumbing.  2.  I'm afraid of getting home with someone else's underpants wrapped up in my towels or the like.

Is it worth letting someone do me the solid of getting it all done... even with my phobias... or do I need to just stay up late every night this week trying to get the 20 loads of laundry done... I suppose I could put H in the Ergo and fight the good fight.

Thoughts???? Sigh.

  • Let your friend take it all to the laundromat and knock it out. You have better things to do at night, and if she's willing to go and babysit your things, I'd let her.

  • As someone who lived for several years in apartments or houses that didn't have private laundry, I'd go the laundry mat route. Just use bleach on as many loads as you can!

  • Laundromat, definitely.  Can you then put her on a plane and send her to my place to do the same?

I sympathize.  Our laundry was out of control, and just as I was catching up, our washer quit working.  It is fixed now, and I am trying to catch up.  I would stay up late and do some loads or go the Ergo route.  I always forget to do this when I am cleaning.  I would probably get so much more done or would have before DS was mobile.  If you are already going to be maxed out at night getting other stuff ready, then I would let her take them.

  • I have the same phobias as you do about laundromats.  But, in this case I'd let your friend go and get it all done.  You need your rest more than staying up late and doing laundry every night. And if your friend is willing to do the laundry, GO FOR IT!!  I say that b/c I hate doing laundry.  :)

I have the same problem as you, laundry is downstairs and it's impossible to tote DD and basket up and down.  I loaded all mine up and took it to my parents house.  :)  They have main level laundry room.  My mom also watches DD for me, so I would throw in a load before working out, then put in dryer and put in another load before leaving for work.  Then went I came to pick DD up, I'd do the same.  Except my mom would usually have done a few loads for me too.  Our laundry is now a lot better under control, but I will stay take it with me at least once a week.  And I would much rather spend my evenings with DD or sleeping.

  • I use Fluff and Fold at my dry cleaners.  I love unwrapping it like a gift and popping it into the drawers.

  • I vote for the laundromat too! Before having Jax I actually liked going to the laundromat because I would go to the 24 hr one at like 2 am and no one would be there so I had just alone time for a couple of hours. Plus with no one else there I could use every single machine in the place if I wanted and het it all done at once! It was awesome!
