Wal-Mart Crib?

Anyone have any comments or experience with the Baby Mod line from Wal-Mart?  I'm interested in hearing your experiences with the Parklane crib or the Olivia Crib.  I was browsing the ohdeedoh website and noticed a lot of nurseries had them and it looked like a nice crib.

Re: Wal-Mart Crib?

  • We got the Parklane and LOVE it! It's very sturdy, well made and we love the storage drawer underneath. It's the perfect place to keep extra sheets and blankets for baby. I highly recommend it. I loved the Olivia too, but the extra storage the Parklane offers won out.

  • I have seen it in a lot of nurseries lately too.  The couple from YoungHouseLove.com has the Parklane crib. They have a really long post here comparing various cribs and why they picked this one. After reading it I was really surprised that Wal-Mart carried something of this quality.
  • I don't have either of the cribs you mentioned, but I do have the Baby Mod Lily crib and changing table. The quality is good for what we paid, but not excellent ($200 for each piece). They are a PITA to put together (took me a whole day to do both, by myself) but well worth the effort. The only complaint that I do have is that the wood is pretty soft and easily dented (I put several dings in my set unpacking it and putting it together). However the the finish is still perfectly intact even on the dented parts. I just worry about the softeness of the wood because this is a 4-in-1 convertible crib that I plan for LO to use for most of his life, and if I put that many dents in it just putting it together, what will it look like after a baby has teethed on it, a toddler has banged his toys on it, etc.? Also, all of the screw holes are visible, they don't give you plugs are anything to cover them. I understand that since the crib is convertible, that probably wouldn't have been very practical but they could have done something for the changing table. They are both very sturdy though, I can get in the crib and bounce around (tried that before putting on the front rail, while it was in the "daybed" stage) with no adverse affects, and I currently weigh 180 lbs. I wouldn't reccomend getting on top of the changing table (it is just a thin wood panel under the changing pad that sits in some grooves and is held in by tightening the other pieces) but it too seems sturdy and the drawers glide very easily, which will be great for when LO starts using it himself. And I'm pretty sure it would never tip over even if a child tried climbing the drawers. The drawers would definitely break before the unit tipped. Overall I am happy with it for the price. $200 seems to be the low end of the crib/changing table spectrum, convertible or not, so while I *hope* to be able to use this for a long time, I won't be heartbroken if I can't. I still got a good deal, even if I am buying new ones 5 years down the road.

  • We have the Cadence crib and changing table combo and love it.  The shipping was super fast, the quality is good, and the price was right.  One thing I will mention- the wood does seem to scratch pretty easily.  Otherwise we are totally happy with it.

  • Baby Mod is made by DaCinci! (sp?)  I bought the Cadence as well and loved it.  I think we will buy another.  The quality is great as well.
