Hi Ladies, 

I'm Jen and I'm originally from Hawaii (grew up in Mililani until high school, then moved to Hilo), but now living the expat life in India with my hubby, our son (who's just a tad over 3 months) and 2 dogs.  

I miss Hawaii mostly because my family is still there and they don't travel to India too often (it's truly a 24-hour flight from there to here).  I do get to come home to the Islands every year and I'm really looking forward to our first trip home with our little one (who'll be 10 months by the time we make the trek out there).  

Anyhow, I just wanted to say "hi" and it's been fun reading your posts so far... I hope I'll be able to contribute some in the near future :)

    Thanks ladies! :)  Looking forward to sharing and learning from all of you - especially when it comes to all things baby! :)  My little guy is starting to put everything into his mouth these days - but his favorite by far are his fingers.  My hubs thinks he'll start forming "bad" habits by sucking on his fingers at this young an age, but I'm not so sure.  I think he's just being curious and will eventually grow out of it.   

    What have you all done regarding the thumb/finger sucking?  Did you let your LOs do it for a while? or did you correct them each time you found them with a finger or two in the mouth?

    I let him suck and explore.  I originally thought I'd discourage it, but now I feel anything that can sooth him is a good thing!

    It's totally natural for a baby to explore his own hands and feet with his mouth...a developmental milestone, actually.  It's a good idea to let him do it without any negative reaction from you or dad.  At his age, everything is a learning process...no bad habits are being formed.  If he's 4 or 5, well then you can worry about correcting it.     Yeah, I'm leaning towards letting him put his hands/fingers into his mouth - it does soothe him.  Now, I just have to work on getting the hubs to do the same! :)
