At my doctor appt Tuesday, the scale said I had gained 5lbs. I googled what is normal weight gain and most of the sites said that 5lbs should be all you gain in the 1st trimester. I still have 4 weeks to go!
I don't really feel any heavier. I haven't been eating poorly or any more than usual. (At least I don't think I have) So I'm perplexed as to why I would have such a dramatic gain in the first few weeks. Could it be water weight? That's the only thing I've been drinking more of.
I really haven't been strict on my eating habits except for adding more veggies and fruits than normal. But now I'm wondering if I should start being a little more particular about what I eat. Like not eating that hamburger and fries I treat myself to every now and then.
Anyone else gain more than normal in 1st tri? If so, did you change your eating habits in 2nd tri? Thx
Re: Weight Gain in 1st Tri
I have already gained 7 lbs ..
but my doc didn't say anything about it so I feel I am ok.
Due to my m/s I had to keep food in my tummy so I feel that know that I am not experiencing m/s as much I can be more careful of what I eat.

With my DD, I gained 11 pounds in my 1st trimester! I only gained 26 the whole pregnancy with her. I just chalked it up to water/bloat that turned into baby, and I also has horrific m/s that could only be tamed by constantly nibbling on carbs or (go figure) anything from Taco Bell. In the 2nd & 3rd tri, I just concentrated on eating healthy and walking 3X a week. That kept my weight in check for the remainder of the preg.
This preg, I've gained 10, and I'll be in 2nd tri next week. I am now starting to hit my 'healthy' craving point, and am :::crossing fingers::: going to do the same thing now that I can stomach food: eat as healthy as possible, limit my 'cravings & comfort foods' and exercise as much as the dr. will allow.
I think some women just put on more in 1st tri than others, but it evens out in the end. Just don't go crazy.
HTH!
