1st Trimester

Zyrtec

I just found out that I am pregnant Friday, I am going to be scheduling my first Dr.'s appointment tomorrow.  However, until then I wanted to find out from you ladies if anyone is taking Zyrtec and if their Dr.'s said it was okay to continue taking it.

I've looked on the FDA drug list, and it's a Category B medicine but I'm just wanting some input from someone who may actually be taking the medicine.

Thanks a million!

Re: Zyrtec

  • My family doctor said it was fine (before we started TTC, we discussed it). I've been taking it.

  • I'm currently ttc and recognize you from the TTGP board. First of all, congrats!!

Although I'm not pregnant, I've already talked to my doctor about what I can and can't take when I get pregnant. Zyrtec has her blessing as being safe. That being said, I think every doctor is different.

Thank you so very much.  I told my DH I will continue for now, but tomorrow I'm scheduling my first appointment so when I talk to them I am just going to okay it with them.  Thanks a million for the congrats again!!!

  • I took it frequently during my last pregnancy (to quell many food-related allergies) and my daughter is perfectly fine.  I'm taking it again this pregnancy.  The only time I didn't take it was when I was BFing.
  • I was told just to make sure and not take the D, but plain zyrtec is fine.
  • I take Zyrtec.  It sucks too because I was on Allegra which worked much much better.  Sob.

  • I was on alllegra also but my dr. switched me to Zyrtec when we began ttc.  I liked the allegra better as well, but at least there is something safe to take.  I also agree with a previous poster, stay away from the D versions, and stick with plain Zyrtec.

  • my doc says it's fine.  I'm actually taking Xyzal which my dr described it to me as a mirror of zyrtec.
  • Zyrtec is completely safe!  My OB/GYN said I can take it throughout my pregnancy.

  • I have to take it every day and have for the past 6 years and OB ok'd it for my pregnancy with DD and my new OB ok'd it for this pregnancy. DD was perfect weight and length and no problems, so there is no need to be miserable your whole pregnancy!

  • I was on Allegra-D for years before my BFP. I knew it wasn't safe though and so as soon as I got my BFP I switched to Zyrtec, which is acceptable according to my doctor.

My doctor gave me a list of medicines that are ok and Claritin I know was on there.

  • Actually the great news about Zyrtec is it helps with morning sickness. It is kind of like a wonder drug, my midwife with my first DS told me to take it up to twice a day to help combat the morning sickness. I have used it for all three of my pregnancies and have not had any ill effects. Hope this helps and Congrats!
