3rd Trimester

Looking forward to snowboarding

I'm looking forward to snowboarding this season. I won't be seeing my doctor for a month and I can find any answers online. Generally, how many weeks or months after birth can you take up something active again like snowboarding? I know I'm totally out of shape and the mountain will kick my butt no matter how much time has passed...

  • In large part, it depends how you're feeling.  I played roller derby and *plan* to start skating again at about 6 weeks postpartum.  As long as you're feeling up to it and your doctor has given you the thumbs up, just ease yourself back into exercise and you should be fine. :)

  • Sorry, I am totally lurking from 2nd tri. I am a ski patroller and plan to ski and work as long as possible ( prob til end of Jan.) and hope to get out for at least the last week of the season so if there is a clear answer to this it would be great. However, my guess is that it would depend upon what happens during L&D...Then on how you are feeling? I wouldn't buy a full day pass though. ;)

  • I agree that a c-section should mean you're out of commission for a few more weeks. I was hoping that there are some guidelines doctors use to dish out their recommendations.
  • I believe the general guideline most doctors recommend is 6 weeks for a vaginal delivery (starting off slowly and using common sense).

  • I asked my doctor this last week , 6 weeks is average for a vaginal birth but he said up to 12-14 weeks for a c-section .6 weeks will put me at mid december I cant wait !!
