If your BP was high before while TTC

were you nervous at all about TTC? I had DS 7 weeks early due to hypertension (PIH) and BP was fine after I had him. Now all the sudden it's high again and my doc has put me on a BP med for a few months. He said if we are TTC he will put me on one that is safe for pregnancy but I can't help but be nervous. He said this shouldn't deter me from TTC. After last time I just get nervous. I was never on meds or anyting last time. I'm just curious about your feelings on this...Thanks ladies!

    I was put on Aldamet during my third tri while pregnant and my BP went down after having LO. Mine is also back up and we are also TTC. :) My doctor put on me one that is safe if I get pregnant and said not to worry also. I didn't deliver early because of PIH, she was induced at 39 weeks. I wouldn't worry about it. If you are already on BP meds, it may help this time when you get pregnant. If your BP goes up, then they should up your meds. I wonder why they never did meds with you with LO #1? GL!

    Thanks! I don't know whyno meds...i had high blood pressure for literally 2 days then my water broke and i went into labor..b/c my BP was so high they had to deliver and there was no stopping DS..haha. So, you are right maybe it will help me this time! Thanks!

    I was diagnosed w/hypertension a few years before TTC and was already on meds.  I just made sure that I researched the meds that were safest for the fetus prior to TTC.  Once I found out I was pg, I asked my doc to change my medicine to one that was considered safest. I was on Metoprolol (sp?) for the first part of the pg, then on Labetalol for the remainder.  Both worked well for me.  I highly recommend www.safefetus.com for any questions or concerns that you have about taking meds while pg.  I used that resource quite a bit to help me make decisions.  I was a little nervous about the possible effects on my baby but my OB was very assuring and supportive.  And my baby was born perfectly healthy!

    just curious...why teh change is meds? Is one better for first tri and one better for third? thanks for the info!

    My blood pressure didn't normalize after I had severe preeclampsia with my first and a loss at 22 weeks. I was on blood pressure meds- Labetalol- after that, prior to, and during, my entire pregnancy with DS. Then after having him, it stabilized on it's own and I was able to stop taking them. I have a feeling with my history though, I will have to go back on them this pregnancy at some point.
