Intro and a questiono
Hi Ladies! I usually post on Trouble TTC, but I have been lurking over here, rooting for you ladies and thought I'd introduce myself here since we've moved on to IVF after our fourth failed IUI. We're unexplained and we've been TTC since Juy 2009.
So, I hate to ask a question on my first post, but I am a little nervous. I had my first follie check today, and there were only 8. They are having me continue the 150 dose of gonal F and start Ganirelix tomorrow. I have another u/s on Tuesday.
So, my question is, is 8 a pretty low number of follies? Can I expect any more to catch up, or should I assume that we'll only have 8? I should have asked the nurse when she called earlier today, but of course I didn't think of this until the RE's office closed for the day.
Sorry, this is a P and R because I have to run some errands....TIA!

Good answer! If that was just your initial monitoring appointment and it was an antral follicular count, then you may have more coming! Also, eight follies are nothing to sneeze at. There are women on this board and the SAIF board who have far fewer follies but have great success.

If they did an AFC at your baseline that seems to be a good judge of how many mature follies you may have, though there are/can be small ones that don't show up at first. I also had an extra egg retrieved at my first IVF that was hiding, that seems to happen on occasion.
8 is perfectly fine. I was told 10-12 is around average, and more than 5 is still good. As PP mentioned, quality over quantity and plenty of ladies on this board have had successful cycles with modest numbers of eggs/embies.
If this is early in your stimming, you'll know more (and probably see more) as you get closer to triggering.

agree with above, are those the measurable one? you could have more growing. my very last u/s they measured 8 and at ER I had 14.
Thank you, thank you, thank you ladies!! I feel much better. My lead follie was 13 mm, which they said was normal. I didn't ask how big the other ones were. I really need to have a list by my phone, because I always forget what questions to ask!

Welcome! We are the same on so many counts. This is also my first IVF. I had my first follie check this morning and I had 8 measurable as well!
I am also doing Gonal F as my stim.

They didn't say, but since they are having me come in again tomorrow I suspect I'm close (maybe tomorrow night?)
