3rd Trimester

What's the latest you would travel while pregnant?

My husband and I are planning to TTC our second soon, but we are running into a problem deciding when because of some weddings that we really want to go to next summer that would require us to fly.  I was hoping you ladies could give us some advice.  If we started to try right away, I could potentially have to travel while 35 weeks pregnant.  Is that completely crazy?  I have already forgotten how hard it was to be in the third trimester, and my daughter is only 13 months old!  Thanks in advance.

Re: What's the latest you would travel while pregnant?

  • I'm almost 34 weeks and couldn't contemplate traveling with a toddler and a belly. My doc told me no traveling more than 2 hours after next week and I have a perfectly normal pregnancy. Most airlines won't let you fly after 36.

I understand going to weddings can be important to some, but why would you want to schedule your lives around something so trivial?

  • I think you can fly all the way up to like 30 weeks or so.  But I wouldn't schedule my TTC around weddings.  I would just TTC when you are ready and let the rest fall into place as you get there.

I doubt your doctor would be okay with you flying that late in your pregnancy.  FWIW, I'm almost 34 weeks and have no plans to travel more than an hour from home until I deliver.
  • As many others eluded to, I think it depends on the distance away.  In 4 weeks I'm suppose to travel for work about 2.5 hours by plane.  I think I'm going to move my travel up by 2 weeks so I don't get myself and baby in trouble.

  • I'm 34 weeks and we have a toddler 20months. He's a handful! If it was my first pregnancy i would be ok traveling until abou now. But since you will have a toddler in tow, 28-30 weeks. Chasing after toddlers is such work, and traveling with them is the biggest pain in the butt.
  • Thanks so much ladies!  It's really a complicated story.  The wedding is actually going to be in Hungary, but we are likely going to be moving to London on the next few months, so the flight would be about 3 hours.  The bridge and groom are very close friends, but even more they are pulling out all the stops (they booked a lakeside property in a very nice area, will arrange a weekend worth of food and activities, will help us with babysitting for the wedding,etc.).  I just think it would be a really fun experience, and I would never get to see Hungary the same way again (the bride is Hungarian).  On the other hand, we really are ready to add to our family and it does seem silly to wait just so we can have a good time (and of course this is all assuming I get pregnant right away which is obviously a big if).  I was hoping that I could have my cake and eat it too, but from the previous posts I don't think that would be possible.

    THIS!

I flew at 35 weeks - I had a very important work meeting to attend.  However, we had a tougher time getting pregnant the second time around and then the third time around we weren't event trying SO I would see how it happens and then just do what you have to from there.  My co-workers sister missed his wedding because she had her baby that morning!

  • I think that your not supposed to fly after 34 weeks. Maybe wait another month or two. You might not concieve right away anyway.
  • If it was only 3 hours away I think that it wouldnt be so bad if you were less then 30 weeks prego. I chase my 2 1/2 nefew and 8 month old neice around 3 days a week and it is exausting. It wasnt so bad just a few weeks ago but mow that I am almost 33 weeks it is getting harder and harder. I would say wait about a month and then start trying that way you aill only be about 30 weeks or so instead of 35

  • I wouldn't travel that late in PG, just because I would be so uncomfortable. Plus you have a toddler! I traveled in my 2nd tri and I was even uncomfortable on a plane then, but it's much better than now! The farthest I go now is an hour away.

  • 32 weeks is my limit... I am almost 35 weeks now and the thought of traveling is not appealing AT ALL and i love to travel.
