retroverted?

anyone out there find out they have a retroverted uterus? i just found out at my last appointment, but the midwife didnt explain what it meant, she just said it wasnt bad. shes not very good at explaining things and fails to do so most of the time, which is why i just found myself an ob/gyn.. so i was wondering if maybe anyone on here knew anything about it and what it means. is it harder to see things on an ultrasound or find the heartbeat? ive had an ultrasound and she scared the crap out of me with the outer because she couldnt find anything until she finally called someone in to do the trans which is when i got to see my baby for the first time :)

Re: retroverted?

  • I do. It just kinda means the uterus is deeper or farther into your back. That's what my MW told me. Its not dangerous or anything. It was just harder to get anything on the doppler or external u/s. Like you. She said not to worry about it because the uterus only has one way to go and that's out so its not a big deal. No worries. I wish it was easier to find on the external and doppler but as long as my baby is healthy and strong I'm happy.

  • we couldnt find the heartbeat with the doppler and then when they tried the outer u/s she couldnt find it either so she went trans. i was completely freaking out and the icing on the cake was when my midwife told me that it could be bad.. she didnt even know where my uterus was on the outer u/s. it was bad. but when i thought about this whole retro jazz, i figured maybe finding the heartbeat would be more difficult. thanks for your input :))

  • Don't worry.. glad you found an OB!  Sounds like that was an excellent decision..  I've had terrible experiences with Midwives as well and I don't trust them at all.

My OB told me that I have a tilted/retroverted uterus while she was doing my internal exam at my first appt.  She said it's not anything to worry about, so I'm not worried at all.  I found baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks 6 days with my home doppler and I had a dating ultrasound done (external) at 8 weeks and they didn't have any trouble finding the baby or heartbeat.  Good luck with the new doc!

  • I was told at 7w6d that I had a retroverted uterus and its nothing to worry about. It leans backwards towards your spine. At my last u/s at 12w2d it wasn't retroverted anymore! As the baby grows it sits into a more upright position.

  • I have a retroverted uterus, too. I found out several years ago but was told it was no big deal. The doctor actually said it might "fall" back into place after childbirth.
