New England or cold weather moms

How are you going to dress LO in the car to go out in the winter.

LO will literally be out in cold for 30 seconds to get in and out of the house and into daycare. A police officer told my friend not to use jackets in car seats ( I guess bc they are bulky and not safety tested).

They also said no to bundle me, so I was just wondering what everyone was doing?

TIA

  • I knew about the jacket thing, but I didn't know the Bundle Me was a no-no.  I guess a blanket?

  • I'll most likely use a couple of blankets.
  • Pants, onesie, socks, shoes and hoodie. I'll toss a blanket over the carrier or DD if she's not in the carrier anymore. I'll also warm the car up. I do tuck a blanket around her now so she doesn't get chilled in the AC.

  • It's already getting cold here so today he had a little sweat jacket on with blankets but it's hard to keep him bundled with the blankets when the wind is blowing them. I need to figure something out soon.
  • I've been trying to wrap my brain around this too because Aiden is still in his infant seat but I don't take it in and out of the car anymore.  So a BundleMe doesn't work for house to car.  For now my plan is to warm up the car and dress him warmly, including a fleecy jacket that's really meant for fall.  But for the literally 10 seconds it's going to take to get to the warm car. I guess it'll work.

  • Why is it a no to the bundle me? We were given one as a gift and told it was great...

Here's what I found online (which is disappointing because we've used it for the past week and LOVE it!):

Sometimes the slots in the Bundle Me don't line up properly with the harness slots, so the Bundle Me will change the way the straps fit the child's shoulders. Also, the Bundle Me is an extra layer between the seat and the child, a big no-no because it can compress and leave slack in the harness. I know some Bundle Me's are thin, so this concern may not apply to them all, but the fact that they VOID a carseat's warranty because they are an aftermarket product and the fact that they can make the harness not fit right is enough to convince most folks.

  • yeah, bundlemes are a no-no because you're not supposed to have anything in between baby and carseat.

i'm buying this--it's a "shower cap" style cover that doesn't interfere with the carseat straps:

  • blankets (over the straps)

This. Although my MIL doesn't understand the no jacket or snowsuit thing.
