1st Trimester

When are you announcing your pregnancy

When are you planning on telling your friends and family? We just order some cute childrens books and are going to wrap them up and give them to our parents as a gift as our way of telling them we are pregnant. We ordered books like What Grandmas are For and What Grandpas are For.

Re: When are you announcing your pregnancy

  • We told our parents and siblings right away, our best friends after our first doctor's appointment at about 8.5 weeks, and plan on telling everyone else after my second appointment next week at 12 weeks.

Good luck!  Sounds like a cute idea!

  • I told my immediate family a few days after the doctor confirmed I was pregnant.  I had my fam over for lunch and did a video chat with my sister, bro-in-law, and niece.  Then I gave my mom an early birthday present.  It was a necklace jewelry box and when she popped it open, the positive pregnancy test was inside.

The next day, we told DH's family.

We wanted to wait until our first u/s before we told the world.  I was bleeding and cramping this week, so I got to have my u/s 2.5 weeks before originally scheduled.  Once we found out twins were in there, the news was OUT to the world!!!

  • already told immediate family. Announcing it after the 1st Dr visit on Wednesday. I'll be 7 weeks.
  • We already told our parents, siblings and 3 close friends. We'll tell everyone else after we see/hear the heartbeat at our 10-12 week u/s.

  • Once we pass the 9 week mark and have hearbeat(s) still we will tell. Don't want our families to worry.

  • When my mom is back from her trip.. or after our 10 wk ultrasound.. whichever is last.

Mom to Benjamin 6/2011 and Lena 5/2013; baby 3 on the way

  • I cant keep a secret... I had to tell my parents and brother as soon as possible, which was that night we had them over for Sunday supper.  I also text messaged my 3 closest friends after church Sunday AM so they couldn't accidentally spill it before i told my parents!  I was 4 1/2 weeks. I knew i was pregnant @ 4 weeks, but waited til i got a clear positive to be sure.  my first 2 tests were very faint but the third was good!  I got it confirmed by my midwife on Wednesday, (5 weeks), and went public!  Im the kind of person that everyone would know if i miscarried, so no point "waiting to be sure"!

When my Mom was pregnant with me they bought a pair of baby booties and took my Dad's grandmother out to eat and gave them to her!  She died before i was born, but they had that special memory and she was so happy to know that her second Great-Grandchild was on the way!

I like the idea of planning a special way to tell, but the first time I wasnt married (got married @ 6mos preg) so it wasnt something I could celebrate that way cuz i knew i'd broken my parents hearts, and then i didnt have any patience the second time either!  LOL

  • We're planning on telling everyone after the first trimester. I'm a private person and I don't enjoy being the focus of attention, so I'd rather keep this our happy secret for a little while at least. Smile I'll be twelve weeks along around Thanksgiving, so we'll spill the beans sometime right after that.

  • We told our families right after it was confirmed by a doctor. We gave each of our mother's who are huge scrapbookers stickers that was pink and blue and they were like a rattle and such.

Mom of 3 (Ginny 4 yrs old), (Miles 2 yrs old), and (Mason due June 15th)
  • We told our immediate family and a few very close friends once I knew my betas were doubling appropriately.  We told a few more close friends once we saw a HB on the u/s.  We aren't telling anyone else until after my NT scan on Tuesday.

Same here - we're hosting Thanksgiving and both of our families will be there so it's going to be a perfect time to announce it.  Last year my SIL told everyone in the family as soon as she found out, and she lost the baby (no heartbeat).  So I definitely wanted to wait until the first trimester when the odds are better.

  • We are going to share the news at Thanksgiving, too.  We live across the country from our families and some family members will be here then, and I'll be 14 weeks.  I am still conflicted about when I'm going to tell work, though.  If I can hide it long enough, I might not tell them until after my year-end review, which would put me somewhere between 19 and 21 weeks.

  • Thanks everyone! I think we will visit my parents next weekend and tell them and then stop by my ILs and tell them as well. We may wait til after the first doc appt at 9 weeks to tell everyone else and then I want to wait awhile to tell everyone at work.

  • I told my parents almost immediately - took a picture of DD in a "big sister" shirt and emailed it to them. Called them, told them to check email while we were talking. Fun times. First time I was PG, I made a photo album of the other grandkids and all us kids (me, bro, sis). Made a cute scrapbook-y last page that said "reserved for Baby G due xx-xx-xxxx". Super cute.

DH told his parents (first PGcy), wow, really late. I think I was like 6 months? He is not super close to them. This time, not sure his plan. But I cannot "come out" on FB until he tells them. Sigh.

  • We told our two closest friends immediately. After our first u/s at 7 weeks, we told my family and a couple more friends.  After my second appt. at 11 weeks, I told my boss.  After our NT scan next week, we will probably spend a week or so deciding when to tell and then end up telling his family, my coworkers, and the rest of the world around 14-15 weeks.

  • We already announced to our immediate family.  I am going to call a few of my friends this weekend and then hope to post it on Facebook and my blog on Monday.  We thought about waiting, but decided not to.  We kept our engagement a secret for a few months and we hated it.  lol
  • When I got my +HPT, only a very close friend and my mother knew.  My father now knows after my first appt - confirmed ultrasound and heartbeat.  I'll let the rest of the world and family know when I reach about 12 weeks.
  • Your idea is so cute. Wouldn't work for me though both sides have grandkids already.I don't think we will until the nearing of the 3rd trimester. Not sure what all the response will be.

  • We were going to wait until Thanksgiving but when we realized my whole family couldn't get together we changed our minds.  Next week I have my first appointment with the doctor, on DH's birthday.  We've invited my family over for dinner Sunday night and plan to tell them with a cake wishing "Daddy" and "Uncle" Happy Birthday.  I'm fairly certain my brother knows what's up (mainly because I had to demand he find a way to be there and that's unusual).

I wanted to tell my parents first.  My MIL's birthday is the same day as DH, so we'll meet the next day as a family and we got her a book.  How to be the best Grandma.

My FIL we'll be meeting later in the week for dinner. DH is working on a cool way to tell him.

  • My work found out before anyone (it's a small dental office) since we were having a training class on a new x-ray machine.  Obviously I could not participate in taking the x-rays so I had to tell.

DH and I told our parents last weekend (6weeks.)  We plan on telling the rest of our family around Thanksgiving since I will be in my 2nd trimester then.  It's going to be hard since next weekend my husband's family is having a get together for his papa's birthday.  I am such an open book and can't keep a secret so it's going to be one long Saturday.

My situation is kind of similar to this. My DH's grandma was on her death bed just a week and a half ago (I had taken a hpt that morning showing +) We both wanted her to know that she was going to have her 2nd great grandchild....that was one of the hardest moments in my life since we were so close to her. BUT DH's aunt and another fam member was in the room so we knew we had to tell the rest of his family since they were all in town to be there for his g-ma. I am so happy we got to tell her before she passed away on 10/2.

  • We were going to wait a couple more weeks to tell family. We were going to try to find Halloween cards to Grandma and Grandpa and send them "from" the baby to announce it. We couldn't wait, though and broke down and told them last night. We ended up just calling them.

We're not telling friends until 2nd tri, though.
