I dont wanna get too personal here, but what do you guys think of seperate bank accounts? I don't work but I get SSI (my two autistic boys do) and child support and the occasional Financial Aid check since i'm a full time college student so I have bank accounts for that and DH has his paycheck but I'm just sick and tired of DH NEVER telling me what he spends until after the fact even after I've already tried to figure out bills and such. And if you do have seperate accounts, who pays for what? I guess I just don't want my marriage to see like a "business", but can people successfully have their seperate money and still be a loving family? Hmmmm.
Re: Seperate bank accounts?
Nope. That crap doesn't fly in our family. We makes decisions together and we each know before the other buys something big ticket.
You guys need to sit-down and have a come to Jesus talk. $$ is serious business.

we have seperate accounts and always have as well. He pays specific bills, and i pay specific bills. it's never been an issue in our relationship. And we don't check up on each others spending habits, but we do talk to each other if we want to buy something big.
that being said, we do know each others PIN numbers and use each others cards occasionally. even though it's seperate accounts we still share the money when we want/need to.
eta: i might feel differently if I didn't work, but I have a pretty good job and make decent money on my own

Thanks everyone! I really like how you've got yours set up. I might have to consider this!
hubby & i both kept our pre-marriage accounts. we got a checking & savings together. we discuss who is going to pay what bills. he generally pays the big bills (mortgage, car notes, etc). i pay the smaller bills (gas, lights, food, etc). we make joint decisions on big purchases/whenever we take any $ out of the joint accts.
we are both pretty good spenders and do well with reigning each other in when necessary.
