Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

ball pit for a 15 month old?

I saw this ball pit at the store today and thought I might get it for L for Christmas. Then I noticed it says for children 2 and over. L will be 15 months in December, but I don't see a reason why she couldn't play in it. The balls are too big to fit in her mouth and as long as she plays supervised I'm not sure how she could hurt herself with this.

Have your children played in something similar at 15 months or so? Would you let them play in something like this? TIA.

  • We got DS one like this when he turned one....honestly he liked it more then than he does now.  It says 4 and up but he loved it up until a month or so ago.  I even tried packing it away and bringing it back out and he still wasn't into it anymore.

  • I would get it... LO is 13 months he doesnt have one, but he has played in one and loved it. Also even if LO gets it for Christams that doesnt mean LO has to open it and use it right away.. I love getting older toys to put away, so LO will randomly have a new toy a month or so after b-days/Christmas..
  • I made this for my dd when she was about 10 months old and it is still one of her favorite toys. I paid $10 for the pool from Walmart, then filled it with 3 $10 bags of balls also from Walmart. The only concern I would have from the one you want is it doesn't look big enough for more than one child.

Here is a picture of my dd's ball pit even our 6 month old neighbor kid loves it he just can't get in it by himself

  • My 16 month old loves his "ball pit" but like the PP, I just bought a cheap inflatable pool and use that.  A ball pit, tunnel, and hula hoop can keep us occupied for an hour!

  • We bought 300 balls and threw them in B's PnP. He can stand up and jump around in it, or "swim". Gives us a use for an item that otherwise we would have packed up already. Not to mention it saved us the money of buying a containment area. :)

He likes to throw the balls out (and back in, once he's out) more than anything, but he thinks it's hilarious and that's the point. I can't imagine waiting until he was 2, and I can't imagine buying such a tiny "pit" for $50.

  • My friend has one like that and they are tiny her son got it at 12 months. My DS has had one since he was 12 months old or younger and we did like the others we got a cheep pool and then bought balls. He is 21 months and he plays in it everyday. We even do some of his therapy's in it.

  • We made DD a ball pit at home when she was about 9 months old. she plays with it at least a few days a week still. We actually just bought a tent/tunnel to replace the blow up pool we have the balls in now for a change.
  • We have this one https://www.amazon.com/PlayHut-71770-Playhut-Magic-Ball/dp/B000H124DI/ref=sr_1_56?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1286651942&sr=1-56 (don't think we paid that price though) and put it up when my daughter was 10 months (already had it with my older kids) and she loves it.  She is starting to not play with it quite as much as she use to though.
  • We have that ball pit with a different design. $50 is way overpriced, I got ours at TRU for $30 and used some coupons to make it closer to $20. It is the perfect size for my 1 year old, and his little gf can play in there with him comfortably. I don't think it would work for bigger kids like the age on the box implies. It is one of the smaller pits, but for the space we have, that was a good thing when I was shopping for one. DS loves it, and I can put it up when I need to.

I saw it at BJs for $20; I just googled and used amazon's listing to show what it was. I never thought about getting one before I saw it in the store. I'm open to other ideas but I think DH will like that it is small since we have DD's toys and will have the swing back out and the PNP out for a while for #2. I like the idea of having one big enough for both kids, but if LOs lose interest in it rather quickly then the small one would do fine. As DD outgorws it, DD2 could start to use it. Hmmm. I have to give it some thought and see what DH thinks too.

We got DD this one at 12 months and she loved it.  It took us a while to get around to putting balls in it, but she loved it both ways.  Sadly, soon after we finally got the balls it started leaking and we couldn't find the hole to patch it.

  • We have the same one in a boys pattern and got it when they were 11 months.  I think 15 months is perfect... definitely not too young.  They are too big for it now.... well maybe if there was only 1 child it would be ok, but 2 definitely just turns in to a royal rumble.

  • DD got that for a first birthday gift, and she LOVES it! She's always playing in it. It doesn't come with very many balls, so we bought an extra pack from Target to go in it.

She has a blast in that thing!

  • I can't get the link to come up by we got one for DS for his birthday and it was the best toy buy so far. He plays with it for hours every day. Balls are also his favorite you though. We have a round blow up one with a B-ball goal at the top. It can fit a couple kids although it's always just him.
