If you have Bath seats

I know a few of you have the bath seats.  I am thinking about getting some as well.  My boys have pretty much outgrown their infant tub, but I am wondering what age you started the bath seats.  They still don't sit up on their own very well, and the seat looks so big.  What do you do in the in between stages when they are too big for the little tub but too little for the big tub?

Also, the bath seats I saw were by Safety first.  Is that the kind you have?  Do you like then, or can you recommend yours?

I didn't like it. We have a small, older house with one bathroom. There was nowhere good to store it. If you have to take it out of the tub between baths you have to let it drain first or you'll have a big mess. It was just more hassle than help.

One of the girls on here, can't remember who right now, has a pic of her little ones doing what I plan to do - bathing in the tub in the laundry basket. You can put a towel in the bottom to cushion them and prevent sliding. There is also a rubber duck inflatable that serves the same purpose - sits in the tub to cushion them and contain them. They sell it at Target.

  • We used the slightly small baby tub until they could sit well.  It seemed like the safest option.  We have 2 Safety First seats.  They didn't work well until the babies were good sitters because they babies slouched and slipped in them.  I really prefer the laundry basket.  The babies can reach their toys easily.  They can play together better.  And, it holds all the toys and bath items between uses.

  • Too funny, enail's pic was the one I was thinking of. Such cuties!
  • We just started using the Aquababy bath seats, and they definitely help me to bathe both babies at once.  They do have to be able to sit well on their own though - otherwise they would slip and slouch too much. We also put a small towel down on each seat to keep them from slipping and to cushion their little parts against the hard plastic.  They do have fun in them though - they love being able to sit up in the tub and splash and play.
  • I was hoping to move on to the bath seats, too, but my two just will not get the hang of sitting up on their own.  So I recently ditched the little tub and (on the advice of a fellow MoM) I purchased one of the big teddy bear spong tub things.  It can go in the big tub and it keeps them from wiggling all around.  I hope to move into the laundry basket (I LOVE that idea!!) sometime in the next month or so.

This is the sponge thing we have:  https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2390251

  • If they're sitting at all, I really suggest just using a laundry basket. It works like a charm! I put a small towel in the bottom of the laundry basket to help keep them from slipping around.
