Toddlers: 24 Months+

Does your 2.5 year old still nap??

Mine pretty much as given them up. He went from taking 2 -3 hour naps  day down to nothing.

He always says I want to go to sleep during the day and then never does.

The only way he will nap is if you drive him around the car and thats not happening.  My DH takes him out to run errands during the weekend and he naps in the car.  He started daycare this week part time i figured that would wear him out and though hes soooo tired he still doesnt nap.

The only benefit to this now is hes going to bed more at a decent hour.  But i didnt think they gave them up this young.

  • My DD hasn't napped since she was 23.5 months old.  I miss naps.

  • If we're at home I put her down and she'll nap anywhere from 1-2 hours.  But if we're out and about and doesn't fall asleep in the car, she skips nap and is ok for the most part.  Just more tired nearing bedtime.

If she starts skipping naps when we're at home, I'll have her do quiet time in her room still, while my DS naps.  I'm not ready to give up that time to myself!!!

whats quiet time?  we will go up in my room and lie on the bed and try and relax is that similar?

  • Almost 3 here and still naps everyday unless there is some special event going on.  He naps 2-3 hours.  Guess I'm lucky - espcially since I take naps on the weekends now (since I'm pregnant and super tired). Smile

  • Our DS is like clockwork still and naps 2-3 hours every afternoon...who knows how much longer will last tho.

  • He took a nap hiatus for a few weeks last spring, but is napping again for 1.5-2 hours most days. Today it's been almost 3 hours.

  • Yes. Two or three hours on the weekends and pretty much the full two hours at daycare (I was worried about this since he just started last month and normally will only nap in his crib).

  • Lily naps 2-2.5 hours at DC, but I haven't succeeded in an afternoon nap for over a month. Sometimes she'll pass out in the car, but it's usually super late in the day when I don't really want her to nap (too close to bedtime). Mothers of older kids are imploring me not to give up on the nap, but I get so frustrated (and so does she) that I'm happier if we just skip it (and so is she).

  • my little girl is 2yrs & 4 mo & she still naps. not everyday anymore like i wish she would but more than 1/2 of the time (i was laid off from my job recently so her routine is changing drastically). She tends to fall asleep most of the time on car-rides though. so we usually plan it so that our errands are done around 1:30 or 2 when she likes to nap. she'll nap for 1-2 hrs. but on the days she doesnt nap she falls asleep earlier & deeper & usually wont wake up until 3am.

  • Ethan is 29 months old and still naps everyday.  At daycare he only sleeps about an hour after lunch but at home he sleeps for 2 hours.  We still have him in a crib though versus the mats at school.  I imagine things will change when he gets his toddler bed in a couple of weeks :/
  • Yes.  Usually between one hour to two.

  • DS is 2 1/2 and gave up his naps about a month ago.  He learned how to climb out of his crib, and he won't stay in the toddler bed, so it's nearly impossible to get him to go to sleep at home.  Also, he wants to play with his older sister and doesn't understand why she doesn't have to go upstairs for a nap too.

He sometimes will fall asleep in the car if we're out and about around 2pm, and if I'm lucky I can transfer him to his crib, but that rarely happens.

  • DD isn't quite 2 1/2 yet but she does still nap.  She takes a nap in the afternoon for about 2 or 3 hours.. sometimes a little bit longer!  She's always been such a good sleeper!!

  • Yes, he does, and honestly, I don't want to think about the day when he stops!

  • DS#2 still naps at least once a day for 1-2 hours. I am afraid to imagine the day he gives them up as he is so active that without a nap he will be one miserable little boy.
  • Yes.  We actually just started waking him after 2 hours no matter what, b/c otherwise he won't be tired enough to go to bed at night.

ON the rare occasion that he doesn't nap, we have quiet time instead.  I put a timer in his room and tell him that he can't come out until it beeps.  Depending on how long he has already been in there, I'll set it for 30 min-1 hour.
