Natural Birth

Inducing ideas...

Ok, so I'm thinking of doing some induction techniques castor oil, primrose oil, and raspberry leaf tea, oh yeah and sex. I'm 39 weeks, but I want her to come this weekend. EDD is 10/10/10. I thought I wouldn't care but everyone is putting in their two cents on how late she's gonna be and maybe it's my way of proving everyone wrong. I've been told that I look too happy and comfortable to have a baby. I have too much energy and I'm smiling too much. Wow - the way people feel about birth, depressing. I've been having contrax all morning here and there and no one would know it cause I'm not looking sour or being a b*t*h?  SMH I'm already 1 cm, soft cervix as off Wednesday.

Would love any input...

I think the next time I get pregnant, I'm not going to tell anyone my due date or how far I'm along, so I don't have to hear people asking me everyday about her coming... It's really annoying...

Re: Inducing ideas...

  • We're in the EXACT same boat!  I did go to my acupuncturist yesterday and have her do the induction points.  I am doing RRL tea, black cohash, primrose oil.  I don't think that I'll do the castor oil until I'm a week overdue, but I'm sure that it would work because I also have a soft cervix!

That 10/10/10 date is a lot of pressure!  I got into a really good contraction rhythm last night, but it stopped around 5:30 this morning.   I'd almost rather be due a full week past 10/10/10, so that there wasn't the pressure for that cool date!

Since this is our first, I keep saying to myself that it would be better if we didn't get 10/10/10 because that's too much pressure for #2 to have such an awesome birth date too!

I'm just not responding to peoples' emails/phone calls - "Have you had the baby yet?"  Don't you think that I would have told you if I had the baby?  Really!

  • I've heard that castor oil just gives you stomach cramps?  And I am NOT looking forward to having people ask me over and over again if the baby's come yet.  I *know* I will be later than the date my doctors have given me.  I think I'm just going to tell people to stfu.  I like your idea about not telling people. ;)
  • Castor oil can be a pretty rough experience...so you might want to hold off on that one. I know you are probably really excited to have your baby in your arms but remember that going to 42 weeks is normal.
I tried EVERYTHING to get my little guy to come out :black/blue cohosh, pennyroyal, sex, pineapple, eggplant, RRL tea, walking, pressure points...everything. And then literally the day that I gave up ans said screw it he will come when he is ready THEN I went into labor :) They just come when they are good and ready.
  • Oh man, if you guys are already complaining about people calling and pestering you if the baby came yet at 39 weeks, just wait...  I was over 41 weeks when DS decided to make his arrival.  I was uncomfortable enough and waiting on pins and needles already WITHOUT everyone calling.  "Seriously, mom, did you really think I'd have the baby and not call you?!"

Anyhow, as for induction, I think you listed the fairly legit ones.  As others said, I would also hold off on the caster oil, didn't do it myself and never plan to.  DS came the day after I started drinking the rasberry leaf tea, but since he was already late, it's hard to attribute it to that.

I think the main thing to remember, no matter how badly you want her to come this weekend, is that she'll come when she & your body are ready.  40 weeks is an AVERAGE.  Some babies/women need more time, some need less time.  All in all, you can help nudge it along but your beautiful baby girl won't be coming until she is ready.  And that is the best way for her & you.  Good luck!!

  • I'm right there with you ladies.. I've pretty much tried everything to start labor, with no success. I'm 2 days OD and REALLY ready for him to get here.. But I keep reminding myself the average is 8 days late with the first LO... and as PP's have said, LO will come when LO is good and ready. Although the waiting along with the phone calls are making me crazy too. Best of luck to you!
  • I took castor oil 3 times with my first with no results about 39 weeks and forward.  (I must say tho, i felt so much better each time with my bowels emptied!)  and then he came on his due date with no assistance!  My second I took castor oil during the night before my due date because i was mad that after 15 hours of early labor during the previous day contractions had stopped completely!  1/2 hour later contractions were 4-6 min apart!  She also was born on her due date!  So i'm really wondering what's gonna happen this time... i keep telling myself i wont do it again, but i think its gonna be too tempting if i reach my due date with no arrival!  LOL

Its definitely not scientific, but personally i think i handled the second labor better because i had just cleaned out my system.  I didnt throw up because there was nothing there and i felt a lot better.  I know some like to eat, but i ate the first time n felt awful n threw up while the second time i didnt.  Granted my second (real) labor was just over 6 hours while the first was over 16!  every one is different!
