Pain right underneath right-side of rib cage

I've been having this pain for over a month - My doctor & I were concerned it maybe my gall bladder so I got an ultrasound & my gall bladder/bile duct/liver are all perfectly fine (Thank God!) - but the pain is still there..it's not a sharp pain - more of a dull annoying pain...like I need to stretch or pass gas (but I don't need to pass gass) anyone else have this pain/feeling.  It's no where near my stomach...it is right were my gall bladder is....i don't know what to do..I'm trying to pay attention to what I eat so I can see what makes it flair up...but it doesn't seem to be consistent to food...please help! TIA

Re: Pain right underneath right-side of rib cage

  • I am so glad to hear that it is not your gallbladder! I'm not sure what it could be. I know that when I get gas it is really high and a dull pain, just kinda uncomfortable, maybe that's what it is.

  • When I went in for my ob appt on tuesday, they told me that if I was experiencing pain there that it was ligament pain, similar to the round ligament pain in the pelvic region.  They said it would be the muscles relaxing and stretching to accomodate the growing baby.  But, as always, ask your doctor.

Of course I asked my doctor, he was the one that sent me for the gall bladder/liver ultrasound...I saw him on Wednesday when he had the results & it wasn't my gall bladder - but he didn't say anything about ligament pain...maybe that is what it is (at least I am hoping)....

  • I've had pain very similar to that since about five weeks, same location.  It was worse then, but every once in a while it comes back.  It almost feels like a side ache, and nothing I do seems to make it feel better.  I just chalked it up to muscles/ligaments stretching.  Try drinking extra water to see if that helps your muscles adjust more freely!
  • I am also glad that it isn't your gall bladder.  I have had pains around there before I was pregnant and it isn't any fun.  Turns out it wasn't my gall bladder either.  I second the extra water intake...it may help.  Hope things get better!
