NTTCALR: Crock pot

This is the first fall I am home so I intend on using my crock pot a lot (I don't like leaving it when I am not home, for fear of burning down my house).

We have this big one

which in reality, does not work for two adults and a preschooler. It gets way too hot if there isn't enough stuff in it (which there never is because I am not cooking for the Duggars), and turns into a firey pit of he11.

What size should I get for 2.5 people?

  • 3 quart works for me - and I'm paranoid about leaving it on while I'm away too BUT coming home to a meal that is ready to eat and the house smelling lovely is so nice, I overcome the paranoia once in a while. So worth it!

  • I always fill the crockpot (and it's just DH and me) and then freeze any leftovers if we don't plan on eating them the next day.  I figure it's healthier that way as once I put in the meat and it has all that space I add in tons of veggies.  Ours also has a hot spot, which is annoying.  It'll burn, even on low, in that one spot if you don't stir it every few hours.

This Yes.  And - may I also recommend using the crock pot liners (you buy them in the same aisle as the foil and saran wrap.  They are awesome!  You put one on the pot before tossing in all of the ingredients - cook like usual and when it comes time to clean up, just remove the bag.  They are a wonderful invention!!

Love those crock pot liners.  I have been letting my food cook in the crockpot overnight.  We are still there even though we are sleep.  I freeze leftovers too.  I need to pull out my crockpot soon!

  • I have one the same size for me, DH and 9yo DS.  (actually, I have 3 that size, 2 4 quart and 4 2 quart.  People went sort of crock pot crazy for our wedding) I usually use the 6 quart and either freeze leftovers for another time, or make leftovers sometime within the nest few days.
