Babies: 3 - 6 Months

DD has a cold and I don't know what to do!

I have a cold, which I tried my damnedest to keep her from catching, but I failed. Last night every time I tried to put her down in her bassinet she started coughing :( Other than that she just sounds stuffy and seems cranky. She's not coughing now, and didn't when I had her in the bed with me. Which is a fine way to sleep for a couple of hours, but all night it is NOT restful for either of us. The only other time she has been "sick" she was just slightly congested and I just nursed her alot and cuddled her. But this time she seems so unhappy! Do I give her tylenol (no fever)? Would that even help?

Re: DD has a cold and I don't know what to do!

  • When my son is congested, I use a cool mist humidifier in his room.  We also give him Saline Drops in his nose each night.  When he's got a cold, I do the drops twice a day.  It seems to help ease the congestion quite a bit.

  • Not much you can do for a cold, it has to run its course; however to alleviate symptoms we use saline drops in the nose and suction it out, I stand in the shower with DS and let the steam break up congestions and basically try to keep him upright while napping like in the swing, etc., also the cool mist humidifier.  I hope your LO gets to feeling better soon!
  • Thanks for the advice! I will have to go get some saline drops. I think I need a new nose suctioner too... mine doesn't seem to have much suction!

  • My doc said you can make your own saline solution.

    1/2 c. water

    1/4 tsp salt

Then just a dropper to put in the nose.

    Awesome, thanks!

I do all this too.  My DS just got over his cold after a solid seven days.  The shower is key.
