Just curious if anyone has ever heard of, found, or come across a peanut (and/or nut) free full-time childcare center/school? If so, where? We are in the Tomball area.
I'm a SAHM and sometimes think about trying to find a job to help out because dh's work is painfully slow and his paychecks are even more painfully small lately.
However, ds has several food allergies and I'd pretty much be petrified to take him somewhere that allows/serves peanut butter or any other form of nuts. Luckily the MDO he goes to is nut free, he started going there before we even found out about his allergies and I've never been so thankful for that.
Thanks for your help!
Re: Peanut/Nut Free Full-time Childcare?
So far his only reaction to peanut butter has been GI related. However, the more they are introduced to it the worse it can get. His allergist told us to eliminate everything from his diet that has even been manufactured in a plant with the things he is allergic too.
He's allergic to peanuts, pecans, eggs, and chocolate. Since he showed allergic to the peanuts and pecans, his allergist told us he is likely allergic to ALL nuts. She thinks he is likely to outgrow these allergies but he has to go at least the next year or more without any of those things in his food at all.
Thanks! The one off Spring Cypress? That would definitely give me some options!
It's crazy how many kids are allergic to nuts. No one we are aware of in either mine or dh's family has a nut allergy. I used to have an egg allergy when I was ds's age, so that didn't surprise me at all.
In ds's MDO class there is at least 1 other kid in a class of 10 that has peanut allergies, last year he was in class with another one. So in their 2 yr old classes combined of about 20, there are at least 3 with nut allergies.
That is the one. Spring Cypress and Klein Church RD.
My 4 year old goes to a private school for pre-k. (Not on the Northside) They have several classrooms that are peanut/nut free, K's included. We get a monthly menu and I'm certain that they do not include any peanut/nut products in their planning. (I haven't seen one yet)
In K's class, the other kids can bring pb sandwiches, etc for themselves, but obviously anything we provide for all of the children is nut free. The Kindergarten class that is peanut free are not "allowed" to bring any form of peanuts (peanut butter included) into the classroom at all. )
I do think it has become more common, so it wouldn't be that hard to find a care provider that is nut free.
Ours off of Louetta/249 is also a Peanut Free facility. There is a big sign on the door that says you can't bring it in. Mr. K goes there full time. Let me know if you would like their information. (I would love to get Mr. K into the Lutheran church. Probably will look at moving him there or to the Courtyard at 18months).
Carebear - I think I know the owners of the Primrose school. I wish we lived closer to it!
St. Timothy Lutheran off 249 has a peanut-free daycare program.

I know DD's room at KRK is also peanut and nut free but not sure about all of the classrooms. You might check if there's one up your way.
