I used to hear people rave about the Diaper Genie and lately I don't hear a thing about it anymore. Do people still get them? Is there some new better brand.
Two of my friends had babies last year and still use their diaper genie, they don't seem to have any issues (although they mention the refills can be pricey if they don't have deals or coupons). We are planning to cloth diaper, so not really an option for us. Most other people I know just use the regular trash can to toss the dirty dipes in and save money that way. so I guess to each their own. GL!

I was registered for the Diaper Genie and then I heard all kinds of bad things about it. (it smelled bad, refills were expensive, and you couldn't use regular bags.) I changed to the Arm&Hammer Diaper Pail. The reviews seemed a little better and I like the fact that it uses baking powder to get rid of the smell. You still need to buy refills, but I also registered for a couple boxes of those.
My friend swears by the Diaper Dekor and says her friends told her they didn't like the Diaper Genie. I think I'm just going with a regular garbage pail.
Just take the dirty diaper out to the garage/trash each time. I did that when nannying. Very easy & not a big deal even when their nursery was upstairs.
The DG does NOT hold the smell. I've babysat other kids who had one, & it was gag-worthy whenever you put a new diaper in there.
I got one because a couple of my friends have them and you never smell anything even when they are full.
You definitely could use a regular trash can. I just think that you would be taking the garbage out a lot more in the early days due to newborns going through soooo many diapers.
I got the Arm & Hammer one. I really wanted a place for diapers to go that my dog could not get into and the Arm & Hammer one appealed to me because of the little baking soda thing.
We're not planning to get one. My sister had one but I felt like it got stuck a lot and still smelled. We're just going to get a trash bin and some of those bags that hide the odor from BRU...then I'll just take that bag out after a couple diapers and put it in the bigger garbage until we take it out. A CW said she did that with her kids and it worked well for them so we'll try it.

There is no way I'm leaving the baby to go down the stairs, get dressed, go outside in the NH winter, to the unattached garage, to throw a diaper in the garbage for EVERY SINGLE diaper.
I've read the best things about Diaper Genie and bought Diaper Genie Elite II. It keeps my dog from stealing diapers, love that it's tall and handless. It was essentially free at $35 at BRU with 20% off coupon, $5 manufacturer coupon in the box, $10 rebate From the company I found online, and $10 gift card for putting it on my registry.

We are in a big apartment building where taking out the trash more than once a day will be a bit inconvenient, that's why I was interested/asking.
Thanks for the feedback all.
LOL! Sorry, I suppose I should have phrased that, "My BFd baby diapers don't smell bad".
