Cannot make it to the grocery store

So - I have had a lot of nausea during this pregnancy and I was feeling better last week, but this week - I just feel like I got hit by a truck.  So I need to make it to the grocery store, but I just cannot.  There is nothing to eat in the house and every night I want to go out and eat just because I cannot stand the fact of:  1/ walking around the store for an hour, 2/ trying to find something to make for dinner, etc when I cannot stand most stuff right now and 3/just too tired to put my head around the entire thing.

My poor DH, he said he would go, but I am afraid that he would pick up stuff that I will not like right now.

Is there anyone else that feels this way about the grocery store?

  • I can't find "real" meals I want to buy.  Can you just have him pick up a bunch of snacks? String cheese, popcorn, fruit, cottage cheese, yogurt, cereal, pasta?  That's what I bought today, although I walked around the store pretty confused for awhile.

  • Omg yes.

This is me. We have been ordering in for the past 3 days. I forced myself to make a grocery list last night and tonight I'll be forcing myself to go. I'm dreading all the smells.

  • Yep, all the time. The other day I finally made myself go to the store, and I walked around for 45 min before I bought pudding and left. I felt so icky looking at all the food too. I'm with you with DH too, especially because he likes lits of sweets, and sweets make me sick right now. Good luck with the shopping

  • :( I am so sorry you feel this crummy. Thankfully, I have been lucky enough that I can go to the grocery store but my DH actually does the grocery shopping and cooking so I don't have to worry.

Our grocery store chain out here Ralphs/Safeway has an online grocery system where you can get your groceries delivered to your house. You can check online and make sure they have everything you need, I think they charge a delivery fee. It may be worth looking into if you are afraid DH won't follow the list. You can also take pictures of specific brands/styles of things you get so he can refer to the phone while he's shopping?

I hope you start to feel better soon hon!

  • Your local big chain should have an online shopping option.  We did delivery groceries for about the first 6mos with my girls.  It was a lifesaver!!  They actually pick good produce, and you end up not overspending b/c you don't do as much impulse shopping online.

  • OMG.  The rotisserie chicken smell at Target makes me want to turn around and leave.  Bleh.  Just thinking about it gives me the dry heaves.
  • DH has been doing all the grocery shopping, I can't go anywhere near a grocery store right now.  We all usually go together on Sunday mornings, but DH is happy to go with DD as long as they get the "fun" cart, then I get a bit of a rest.

  • do any of your stores have the personal grocery shopper thing where you shop online and pay a fee (like $5) and you drive up and ring the bell and they bring it out to you? i think it's worth the extra 5 since i cant go i there and look at all the food without throwing up.

  • Yes!!  Even the smell of the refrigerator is making me gag today.  Ugh, I feel your pain!!!  I second the online shopping/home delivery option.  Good luck!

  • I had days like that. It sucks! Does your grocery store have a delivery service? It might be worth it until you're feeling well enough to go yourself.

  • I work in a grocery store, so no avoiding it for me!

If somehow I were able to finagle DH into going to the grocery store alone(I usually dont shop where I work for various reasons; dont know what to do for dinner, no inspiration, exhaustion, etc) I would probably be indebted to him for the rest of my natural life. DH does not run for anything except to get out of the grocery store ASAP!
