Postpartum Depression

lately i feel like my anxiety meds aren't working

hi ladies. i'm not a mommy yet, but i've found that this is 'the place' with the most insite on this topic.

i've been on zoloft for over a year, and its been great! it really helped me with my uncontrolled anxiety. but in the last few weeks i'm having symptoms again - shallow breathing, little bit of chest pains starting up again, and last week i had an actual panic attack for no reason whatsoever. i have had a lot happening in the last few months - went off BC (ttc this winter) and my parents recently split up :( so there's two big factors that could be contributing.

should i just wait it out and see if it gets worse, or take action now? i have a gyno exam next week, so i could ask him about my symptoms & meds. but he wasn't my prescribing Dr. for it. he may know how going off BC (nuva ring) would contribute though.

  • I don't have much experience as I am just going on Zoloft for the first time.  But, it seems like talking to your OBGYN wouldn't hurt.  Like you said, even if he isn't the prescribing Dr he might know the possible effects of going off BC.  Also, I wonder if a pharmacist might know since.  You might want to stop by your pharmacy and have a general conversation with them about how the two medications are related.

  • I would defiantly talk to your Dr next week. My OBGYN is the Dr who prescribed my anxiety meds, and since they deal with a lot of postpartum anxiety and depression issues, I'm sure they'd be able to help. I'm thinking they'll probably either increase your dose or try a new med. You may also just be able to call your regular Dr and have them up your dose or prescribe something else over the phone. Good luck!
