Would you take a 2 yr old to see The Lion King?

As in the play? My MIL is dead set on taking Holly when it comes to the DPAC in January. When we went to Disneyworld last fall, she went bonkers over the Lion King show there, but it was very Disney-fied. I know the play is also Disney, but still.

She's going through a phase where she's afraid of random things right now (Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, any stuffed animals that move). I bet if we took her to Disneyworld right now, she'd probably be afraid of the characters, even though she LOVED them last fall.

I'm apprehensive about taking her to a play (not sure how long it is). I guess I'll see how she is at Yo Gabba Gabba Live next weekend first...

  • No. I don't think she would sit through it. I would personally hate to miss the show if she needed to get up.

ditto.  i just don't think it would be appropriate for a 2 year old.   i doubt they would enjoy it much even if they did sit still long enough lol.  too theatrical in my opinion.

  • No. It is for sure not geared towards children, I have seen the actual Broadway play and I could for sure see scary elements that may frighten her. There is no way a toddler would sit quietly through that. Plus, I would be so self conscious the whole time about her disturbing everyone else it just wouldn't be worth it to me!

  • Nope.  I think the movie is even a bit much in parts (we had friends 8-10 years ago who edited out about 10 scenes of the movie for their preschoolers, which DH and I thought was hilarious ;)), and on stage, unless you get up and leave at well-timed parts, there's no way to avoid the heavier stuff.  Plus, if she'd be scared of Cookie Monster (and Kira would be too), even on stage, she'd probably be creeped out by the animals.  I LOVE The Lion King for older children though. :)

  • We're doing the Nutcracker in December -- would that be an option instead?

  • See, I see the Nutcracker as being something she'd be even less likely to sit through than the Lion King! I do think she'll love YGG, but maybe we'll just wait awhile for real plays. :-)

I, however, LOVE the Nutcracker. Smile

  • Gotcha.  Maybe next year for Holly -- I knew I wanted Kira to be 3 since I want to make it a yearly thing for her now, so I understand.  I wasn't ready to take her last year either as much as I was tempted!  We bought tickets together the day they went on sale last week and she asks me about it 10 times a day, and we still have 2 months to go, LOL...but right there is a benefit of giving them an extra year. :)

  • Maddie just saw a commercial for The Lion King and got really excited. But she also started crawling around on the floor and roaring like a lion, which I think is frowned upon at a live theater performance. So as much as I'd love to take her, I think we'll have to pass this year!
