c-section: discomfort question

So I had a c-section over the weekend.  I was up moving around about 4 to 5 hours after with the help of Dh and the RN.  I'm on pain meds but in all reality I feel pretty good.  The first couple days I would feel pretty sore if I missed a dose but other than that pretty good.

The only problem I have right now is when I go from sitting to standing or vice versa, I will often have a temporary sharp  pain on either my left or right side (a few inches from my belly button area) but not with the incision but above it.

Anyone else with this?  I'm thinking it's just the muscles being stretched.  My OB didn't seem concerned when I mentioned it today (appt to have my staples removed) and said each day I'd feel better.

Re: c-section: discomfort question

  • all I can say is TAKE IT SLOW. Even if you feel good, it will come back to haunt you. I would have a burning sensation and start bleeding heavier and my Dr. said I was overdoing it even though I felt like a million bucks. Do everything as if you were doing it for the first time and you won't regret it later. I am sorry you had staples. I had dermabond glue stuff and it was great!

  • Yeah, that's normal. My nurse said it's sometimes related to how they had the clamps placed to hold everything open.

  • This pain has been the bane of my existence for the past month. It would hit me when I went to stand up and when I was walking. I'm only now getting to the point where I can walk around the grocery store without stopping to sit down and take breaks. The pain meds never touched this pain. The doc said it was one of two things, from the internal stitches or from the surgeons working in the incision. They have to yank and pull a lot with the instruments so there's a good deal of internal soft tissue damage.

I sort of have the opposite advice: Yes, take it slow-er, but make sure you're still moving and walking and everything. Don't over do it, but don't do nothing either.

  • Thanks everyone!  My OB only gave me pain meds to cover me for a few days.  After that I plan to take OTC pain relivers as needed.  I keep telling myself that I just had major surgery but it's frustrating not being able to do things for myself.  I have a hard time leaning over to pick up or put down our little one in his bassinet.  Dh says he doesn't mind doing things for me but sometimes I feel like there isn't much I can do for myself.  lol  I just want this healing thing to work faster :)
