Does LO like the shower?

Took DD to the YMCA this weekend and went swimming, it was so fun. After I didn't bother trying to shower, we were going home right away, but another lady had her 3 YO in the shower with her screaming his head off. It was awful and all I could think was I don't want that to ever be me and DD.

So I tried showering with her at home that night... big.mistake. She cried so hard, it was so sad. DH tried, she hated it. I felt like I was torturing her and didn't even finish washing her.

Re: Does LO like the shower?

  • DD Loves the shower - She even runs to the shower when she hears it turn on. I put her in the walk in shower in the morning when she's got a dirty diaper and I have time to get ready for work. All I hear are happy noises and toys banging.

I've been bringing her in the shower since her stump fell off.

  • I started showering w/ DD1 when she was around 18 months. And only because we moved and our shower is large enough that she can stand on one end and not get sprayed by any water at all...she just plays while I shower. Then I wash her and rinse her off with a cup.

Actually, just in the past 2 weeks has she started standing under the shower spray/water. Before now, she would scream every time I tried to get her in the water spray. She seemed scared of it. Now she's starting to try and stand under it and likes it...and she 2y7mo.

  • My DD LOVES the shower!  She knows it's coming and she squeals and gets all jumpy and excited.  It is the cutest thing.  But she also has no problem with water.  How does your DD do with baths?  Does she not usually like to have water over her face?

  • I've only showered w/ him once and he didn't seem to mind.  I think he was a little freaked out at first but once he realized that I wasn't gonna let anything happen to him, he had a grand old time.  It was cute watching him trying to catch the water in his hands.

DD loves water, and adores bath time, she does not like water on her face though, so I didn't put her head under the stream of water. She cried even when she wasn't getting wet :( She didn't calm down until she was wrapped in a towel out of the bathroom alltogether. Now just the sound of the shower scares her... I've traumatized her for life.

  • The shower is the way that we normally bathe DD. Either DH or I just take her in with us while we are showering. She sits at the far end and plays with her bath toys.

We have been taking her in the shower with us for months though. Maybe your LO just needs to get used to it.

  • DD loves the shower. I actually always showered with her when she was tiny, but had to stop when she started getting all squirmy. That's when we switched to the inflatable duck tub. She always tried to climb into the tub when I shower with her in the bathroom, she gets really excited when I turn the water on.
  • this exactly. DS showers with myself of DH every day. So he is used to it. it is usually the only way i can get a shower in : )

  • DD is terrified of the shower. She clings to me with all her might and freaks out if I put her down, she just stands there and screams. I don't know why she's so scared of it!
