I love James. Paul is a little dull; with such a common, classic FN, I'd love to see something adventurous paired with it (like James Atticus or James Phineas).
As it is, though, it's solid, dependable, and masculine. Nothing wrong with it. It's just a little boring for my taste.
My DH's initials are JP and he does get called that...but very very rarely and only by one or two family members. So I wouldn't let that deter you from using James Paul. I think it's a solid choice.

I like it too. Very solid. Something has to be said for going with something 'normal' when so many people go crazy with names.
My husband is Brian Paul, so I have a fondness for Paul I suppose.
