Sam is on the left and Oliver is on the right.
They had their first pediatrician visit yesterday and Sam is back up to birth weight and Oliver gained 4 ounces. So now they are 6 pounds and 5 pounds 10 ounces.
I had an OB appt. on the 29th and when I went there she said I was 5cm dilated and still 50% effaced and she seemed surprised that I wasn't headed straight to the hospital from her office. I drove myself to the appt and all of our stuff was at home so I just headed home. I was having contractions every 8-10 minutes but they didn't hurt at all so I didn't really think anything of it. I came home and called my DH and updated him. I called one of my friends who is a nurse and she told me I'm crazy and I need to get my stuff packed and leave for the hospital asap since the hospital is an hour away. I figured since the contractions were getting closer together I should probably go in - I didn't want to have them on the side of the freeway. So I had my DH come home and my step-mom came over to stay with the kids.
We had my sisters meet us at the hospital and we all got there at the same time - about 3:30 in the afternoon. I headed up to L&D and they got me in a room and all hooked up and my contractions were painless and about 7 minutes apart. They checked me and I was 6 cm. The contractions weren't hurting at all and they even slowed down to 10 minutes apart for a while which was frustrating. The OB on call came and broke my water and that didn't even speed things up. They ordered an u/s to check the babies' positions and they were both head down. About an hour or two after they broke my water she was saying I should probably get pitocin and I think my body subconciously rebelled against that idea because not ten minutes later my contractions were three minutes apart and painful and I could feel Oliver descending. Pretty soon I was pushing and he was out after two contractions.
The OB broke Sam's water and holy cow, it was like an ocean. I couldn't believe how much fluid there was. Well, Sam decided to stick his hand out and ended up lying transverse. The OB was pulling his arm and trying to get him and I was yelling at her to stop because I knew he wasn't going anywhere. She reached her hand up inside and tried turning him and he wasn't budging so they rushed me into surgery and all the while I'm having these horrific contractions that hurt like hell and I'm scared to death that we're going to die. They knocked me out and got him out and when I came to the first thing I asked (seriously) was did they tie my tubes. Oh my gosh, really? And yes they did. Sam was perfect and I lost a lot of blood. I still look like a ghost. I was on morphine for the first day and ibuprofen after that. I was shocked at the pain level of the c-section. I expected it to be so much worse. Oliver was so little that I didn't even feel like I had a vaginal birth. I wasn't sore at all down there. My c-section is healing so nicely. I'm tired because the babies get up a lot and I'm nursing them one at a time.
