DD has had a cold since this past weekend and she got a fever last night. It's higher now and I was wondering at what temperature do you take a baby to the hospital? I asked the receptionist at the pedi's office when I left a message for the dr, but she said 105. I know that's not right, and the pedi is taking his own sweet time calling me back. Help, please. TIA.

Re: When do you go to the hospital?
I told her that it was 101.7 last time I took it and asked when I should take her to the hospital and she said "It's usually not until 105". I was just stunned and thought that was too high. I called DH and told him and he said 106 is deadly for a grownup, 105 is not safe at all for an infant.
I gave her some Little Fevers about an hour ago and just checked it and it's down to 100 even.
Our pedi also says 105.
DD had a fever of 103.4 once and the pedi just told me to give her tylenol and call if it got over 105. It was a rough night, but the fever started breaking by morning.
Is it possible that she has an ear infection. Everytime DD ran a fever, she ended up having an ear infection.
when my little one was 12 weeks, she spiked a 101.2 fever and we were told to go to the ER for the sole reason that it was over 101 and she was under three months. if she was over 3 months, they would have said give some tylenol and see if it goes down within a certain amount of time.
honestly, unless she's dehydrated or having difficulty breathing, i don't see why you'd have to bring her in with a 101.7 degree fever.
ETA: by " bring her in", i mean to the ER. i would think your doctor would want you to bring her in for an office visit, though.
No, it's not an ear infection. I'm hoping it's just a cold and nothing worse. Along with the fever, she has dirrhea, a really stuffy nose, bloody snot, will only eat 3 oz at a time, sleeps all the time, and a bad cough. I mainly don't want her to get dehydrated. I'm giving her Pedialyte, but she won't drink much.
I agree with this but would add that an infant younger than 3 months old needs to be evaluated for a high fever. When DS1 was a little over 3 months old, he spiked a fever of 104 (RSV) and our pedi said he was on the borderline for age and told us to take him to the nearby pediatric walk-in clinic the next day (it was a weekend) unless the fever went higher. If he had been younger, she was clear that he would have needed to go to the ER immediately.
105 actually is a fairly standard threshold in terms of emergency care for infants/children older than 3 months.

Wow. I was just going to say that 105 is VERY VERY VERY bad for an adult, let alone a baby.
DS has never been sick *knock on wood*, but after his vaccines they send you home with a paper that if his temp is 101 or above to take him to the ER.
Same for ds. Fever= ear infection.
If one of mine had a fever like that I'd call the pedi and ask for a sick appt--- they will get us in within 1-2 hours.
