Northside Daycare Cost

Hey everybody, first time Bump poster, here.

My husband and I are meeting with an OBGYN and will begin TTC at the end of October. We're so excited about everything to come but, being the household budget warrior, I'm a bit concerned about the cost of daycare in our area.

I've heard we should expect to pay up to $1,500 a month. Can anyone give some estimates of what to expect to pay in Lincoln Square or the surrounding neighborhoods? My husband works in Evanston, so any ideas for that area would be great, too. My job is in Lincoln Park and I have a feeling that will be way out of our price range.

TIA

Re: Northside Daycare Cost

  • We live near Lincoln Square but put S in a center out in the burbs, closer to my job, and it's shy of $1500 a month for full time infant care. Centers are more expensive and I have no doubt that $1500 a month would be a *good* price. You might want to look into in-home care, which should be significantly cheaper. Check out Sittercity.com- or even Craigslist.

  • We live on the northside and when we were looking for daycare in the area a year ago, the range was about $1,200-1,800/month.

I'd suggest joining Neighborhood Parents Network (npnparents.org).  They have some good resources/message boards about childcare (centers, in home, nannies, etc.)

  • Very helpful suggestions. Thank you so much.
  • We are not TTC yet but I have called a few places, Kindercare in Deerfield said $1650. I found a few places on craiglist, 1 certified in-home daycare that was $65/day for part-time & $55/day for full time in Rogers Park. We will look for an in-home or a nany share as we have a certain budget we can do for daycare when that time comes.

  • We're due in February and are currently on a waiting list at Ravenswood Manor Childcare Center which is $299 for full-time care per week.  We've been on the waiting list since a month after conception and we have a very, very slim chance of getting in by April (they take infants at 6 weeks).  I say this to recommend that you sign up for child care right way.  I can't believe the severe shortage of infant childcare available on the north side.
