Poll: Bedtime

Couple months ago, I worked on gradually shifting LO's bedtime earlier. Now, we've been at the same time for a while (bedtime routine starts at 8:30pm and he'll be fully asleep by 9:45pm, sometimes 10pm if he's really fussy about it). I know, it still kinda late =P Sometimes I wonder if I should shift it even earlier...so I'm just wondering when everyone's LO's bedtime is. Clicky poll time!

Re: Poll: Bedtime

  • We're pretty much on your timeframe. She's usually in bed by 9:30 and sleeps till 6:30-7:30. Up to nurse then back down until about 9:30. If we put her to bed later she still wakes at about the same time. Wonder what would happen if we put her down earlier.

  • Kailani goes to bed between 6 and 8 and wakes up between 5:00 - 6:30 am. It doesn't matter what time we put her down she's waking up by 6:30 am.

I know that the time frame we put her to bed varies but it depends on how long she sleeps during her afternoon nap. Last night we started her routine late because she didn't wake up from her afternoon nap until 5.

Even if she wakes at 5 am and we give her a bottle she's waking up again at 6:30. Its better just to get up with her and play a little then give her cereal.

  • A goes down between 6 and 7, and he wakes between 5 and 6:30. He's still getting up for one nighttime feeding, but the time of that varies. I have no idea where he got his early bird gene from!

  • I voted for 7 but at the very latest it's 7:15. You can tell she hits the wall at about 655pm. We do dinner at 530, then play until about 630 then pjs and night time diaper, cuddle, milk, then bed...
  • I voted for 8pm, but every once in a while it's 8.30pm or 7.45pm. Anyway, if we take them upstairs for their bath at 8pm, then they get a book and then their bottle, and they're usually asleep by around 8.45pm (9pm on a fussy night).

That said, we just had daylight savings time here, which means they're now going to bed at what seems like to them to be 7pm...and I have to say it's going smoother now lol! So I'm wondering if they've been leaning toward an earlier bedtime and the time change did it by accident.

ETA: Oh, and they normally wake around 6.30am.

  • How old is your LO? That does make a difference... Alexa's bedtime is 7:30 but we usually get her in the crib around 8. We're trying to do family dinners with her and it's so hard to get home from work at 6:30 and cook dinner and feed her, bath and bed. We are racing the clock every night!

She wakes up at 6:30, or we wake her by 6:30. On vacation last week, she slept until 7:30 most days and 8 one wonderful day! We had happened to put her down early that day, around 7, so it was her first 13-hour stretch!

He's 4.5 months now. And we're racing the clock every night too =P It's hard! We start his bath at 8:30pm, then read, nurse, sleep. He gets up around 8:30-9am but he does nurse once or twice in between, usually anywhere from 1-3am and then again around 6-7am. If he nurses once, then it's usually around 3am and he'll last until 8:30am. Although these days, I think he's going through the 4-mo wakeful...

  • I voted for 8:00-8:59, but it's moving earlier these days.  We have been starting our bedtime routine around 7:30 (it takes about 45 minutes to get to full sleeping), but we've noticed that, while the evening fussiness begins around 6:00, it really hits the fan around 7:00.  So tonight we started the routine (bath, massage, feed, story) at 7:00, and it went really well. He was completely asleep by 7:45.  We'll see how long he sleeps now, though!  Usually he gets up to feed around 1:30 or so, then again at around 5:30.  Then he comes to bed with me and we both just doze for another hour or so (which will need to stop in two weeks when I go back to work :(  )

  • I voted for 7-7:59, Mason is 3.5 months and has been going to bed usually by 7 for about a month and half now. He gets up around 3-3:30 to feed then back to sleep and up again around 6 to feed. Then I either take him to bed with me and he usually sleeps till about 8 or just lie in his crib and babbles to his animal friends on his mobile for an hour or so.
  • We start the bedtime routine anywhere from 8:30-9:30 - it really depends on what time  he woke up from his second nap (which he's been even fussy about taking lately!).    But over the weekend, he was teething and refused to go to sleep until after midnight.
  • well i guess it's sort of nice to see that i am not the only one w/an early bird!!

we do dinner/solids from 6-6:30pm, then i put her on the potty for 15 min around 6:30-6:45pm.  then i bathe her, put lotion on, PJs, etc and by then it's about 7pm.  i then nurse her, brush her teeth, read her a bedtime book, and then put her down around 7:15pm...she's usually asleep by 7:30/7:45pm.  it's hard b/c i don't always get home by 7pm to nurse her.  when i get home later from work, i have DH start her bedtime routine and sometimes it gets shifted back a little bit but in general she's asleep by 8pm on those days and no later than 8:15pm if we're really running behind.  she then gets up for the day around 5:30-6:30am.

i think if you are able to shift LO's bedtime earlier then you should do it but if not, wait until he's a little bit older and try again.  i've honestly considered trying to shift miss A's bedtime even earlier (closer to 7pm) but i honestly don't know how we would do it since the earliest i get home on days i work is 6:30pm
