I only have about $150 left on my student loan but with DH in school for the next 6 years, there are more ahead of us.

Yes, but...my parents are completely amazing and told me as long as I went to a state school, they would pay for 4 years of college. So I did...and I'm spoiled. The end.

DH paid his off less than a year after he graduated. He only had 1.5 years of loan to pay on, though, and at a community college. (He has an associate degree in Fire Science).
I just keep adding to mine...private college is expensive! Good thing they are generous with their scholarships.
By the time DH is done with school, we'll have about $50k combined.
Peanuts!! We had almost 70k! And I had a full ride scholarship for my masters and a 1/2 tuition scholarship for my bachelor's.
So, you can do the math and see that DH's loans are the problem. Hence the constant b!tching about why he doesn't have a better job.
Girl, you don't even wanna know what kind of dent med school put into our student loan debt! Try quadrupling your $70k, and that's about where we are. I sometimes get sick thinking about it.

I am sure that is true, but I am also sure your DH makes at least 5 times what mine does and doesn't do a job that requires no college at all. Yeah, I am bitter about it.

At the moment, I actually make more than he does. And I'm a temp. But you're right. Once he's done with his residency, the earning potential goes up significantly.

DH and I both have our masters degrees - luckily DH's parents helped him out a TON during undergrad and his grad school was free... mine, not so much. So he has a little bit and I have a lot - between the 2 of us we are in the triple digits Our monthly student loan payments are almost as much as our monthly mortgage payment - it makes me so sad just to think about it, ugh.

My parents paid for 3 years of (public) undergrad and took out a loan for my last year (12K). I managed to keep my SLs to 14K during my 6 years of grad school - thank goodness I TAed so much! I consolidated at 4.25%, so it is the "cheapest" debt we have and we're paying it off least aggressively (if that makes sense).

My parents paid them off when I graduated. It was only like $2k.
Thankfully, the bank of mom and dad gave me a full ride scholarship (including my sorority dues, car, and car insurance).
