A while ago I posted that Addi has a sacral dimple and that we had to go to see a neuro surgeon in Oakland to have it checked. When we saw the Neuro surgeon PA she decided that Addi needed a MRI. A couple weeks ago we went for her MRI which had to be done in Oakland since she had to be sedated.
Well yesterday we got the results of the MRI and she does in fact have a tethered spinal cord. So she has to have surgery to repair in in the next 4-6 months. The surgery is totally routine, and they do it all the time but it still freaked me out to think of my little baby going in for spine surgery.
To top that all off, now that Addi had a positive MRI, we have to get Natalie checked since she too has a sacral dimple. N's is smaller but due to the genetic predisposition we need to make sure she's okay. So within the next month I have to take N down to Oakland for a MRI.
I'm still a bit in shock and processing all this info, I was really convinced that the MRI would be negative and all would be okay. But now I have to wrap my head around both of my kids potentially having spinal surgery within the next year.
Anyhow, that's our update, and my THANK goodness I have great health insurance and proactive doctors post.
Sorry that ended up a bit long.
Re: Update to Tethered Spinal cord/sacral dimple and spinal surgery (long)
Lots of love and dust to both of your girls and to you! I can't imagine the stress you're feeling.
I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of that K. Must be so scary to think about. How do they decide when to do the surgery? And will it have to be done in Oakland too?
Sending healing thoughts to you and your girls.
They like to do the surgery between 6-12 months because they like to do it before they are walking. They want to wait a couple months until she's a bit bigger because of the anesthesia. So she'll likely have it in about 4 months, when she's 9-10 months ols.
It will be in Oakland, because that is where they do pediatriac neurosurgery. I could have chosen Sac, bu Oakland is only an hour from us.
Many many many ((((HUGS)))) . My thoughts are with you and your family! I hope Natalie's results are clear!!
That's a lot to have to process. Thinking of you, sorry you and your girls are going through all this.
Hugs. I'm sorry that Addi needs surgery. I'm thinking of you all and hoping that N doesn't need it. Keep us posted.
HUGS again.
