So we're trying table foods again. DD has a bad gag reflex and was always vomiting with table foods. Her pedi said we should keep at it and it will get better. So far so good. She gagged today for the first time, but didn't throw up, woo hoo! It was on banana. I tried mushing it up a little, but I don't think it was mushy enough for her. Should I let the banana ripen up more? Maybe if it was mushier, it would be easier? Any other foods you suggest to start with that are mushy/soft? She's doing well with mum mums and the gerber crunchies. Those dissolve really well. I'm worried about actually pieces of chicken or turkey because she will have to chew them a bit. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Re: Beginner table foods, etc. - help please
We had big time success with green beans and peas. Not mashed, just sliced small. Blueberries were really easy for K too. She's a big time fan of refried beans, which I realize are as mushy as pureed food, but, just so you know!
Kaygan also really likes pasta, and that seems to be soft enough that they can swallow it easily, but they get used to practicing moving actual pieces of food around in their mouths.

they say that avocados are the perfect first food! and have lots of suggestions on different ways to prepare it and how to thin anything - using BM, formula, or water...
I have a beaba, and can't wait to play! Already looking at recipes and whatnot... lol

In addition to what everyone else posted, DS did really well early on with cheese ravioli (had a spinach/alfredo sauce) - I cut it into small pieces and he loved the taste. He also likes small pieces of pancake. They aren't slippery so it's easy for him to hold and move to his mouth. Oh, another thing after the puffs, we moved to regular cheerios and he loves those.
As for meat, it's strangely easy for him to eat. He prefers it to the texture of banana. I've only given him shredded meat (like shredded chicken or pulled pork) and he can easily pick up the little shred of meat, or small piece, and he happily eats it.
My LO loves, loves broccoli...steamed, just the tops...and black beans..."hard" enough to pick up, but then very easy to mush. Also waffles (we buy the dairy/egg/gluten free frozen ones) are a new fave!
For first meats, we bought the purdue "shortcuts" (little pieces of chicken) and I cut those up and he loves them!
