Preemies

My preemie back in hospital:)

my preemie was home for about seven weeks. She is back in the hospital with RSV! She finally was wearing 3 month clothing and starting to gain weight. I am a mess again! Thanks for all the support, anyone else have a preemie come home than go back? Also any information on RSV would be good? Where could she have gotten it. She seldom was out anyplace? When out I covered her carseat with a blanket...

  • I'm sorry :( I don't have any info to offer you, but I am very curious to see any answers to your ?'s above.
  • RSV can live on surfaces for up to 8 hours so it's possible that you or someone else in your house picked it up while out in public and spread it around. This is why it's important to have everyone who comes in the house wash their hands first to prevent spreading germs on surfaces in your house. Unfortunately, covering her carseat with a blanket won't prevent RSV from getting to her.  If you touched anything in public and then touched her, you could've spread it to her hands and then she puts her hands in her mouth and there you go.

Here's some info about RSV: https://www.synagis.com/what-is-rsv.aspx

  • I'm so sorry to hear that she's back in the hospital. Sending lots of prayers for a speedy recovery.

  • A friend's full term newborn got RSV when she was 10 days old and she hadn't even left the house. I hope she recovers quickly.
  • I'm sorry... Nathan got RSV last winter and he had NEVER left the house (well from Nov-Apr) anyway.. and he got it in Feb.  Luckily he recovered quickly.  I hope your LO is home soon!

  • Thank You for the support and the website. It seems we have to be worried about everything when it comes to the preemies, I was worried about so much else with her, and forgot all about RSV. Once she is back home she is never leaving the house. I am going to check out that website you posted and thanks again for the support!

    God Bless,

  • I hope she gets better soon!  My DS got RSV when he was 5 months even though we only left the house to go to grandparents houses or the dr.  I beat myself up over him getting it, but he did get better and that's all that matters.
  • Mine little one came home yesterday. She is sick still but doing much better. Had us up all last night, but was worth every second. She seemed to sleep all day and I am fine with that:) Thanks for all the prayers and support!

    God Bless everyone on here!

    Jillian
