DD is due for her 3 month growth spurt any day now. At her 6 week spurt she spent the whole weekend attached to my boob. It was the weekend and I was still on leave, so no big deal. But now I am back at work and I am worried. She takes 16 ounces while there (8 BM and 8 formula) in 4 separate bottles. Should I give more bottles? How did you handle growth spurts at this young age? Also I know that since I am breastfeeding I need to let her nurse during a growth spurt to tell my body to make more. How does that happen if I am not with her? Thanks!
Re: How does daycare keep up with growth spurt?
I always give more in a separate bottle and tell her to use it as she sees fit. Yesterday she called and said DD seemed cranky, I said try feeding her more, she took 3 more oz... I also check in with her daily to see how she has been eating and if I should increase the bottles. She always gives me back exactly what DD left in a bottle so I can see if there is any left and that helps me know what DD is eating (she'll tell me if she ate more).
I pump after my AM nursing session and before bed to ensure I always have more in the fridge than DD is currently nursing, so that 'tricks' my body into producing more. So
First AM: nurse/pump
During Work: pump 3x (one AM, 2 afternoon)
DD home: nurse 2x
At my bedtime: pump
it is a labor of love!!!
I send an extra bottle each day so that day care can use it if necessary. I also have two frozen bags of BM in their freezer so that if my LO is really hungry, they can use it.
It seems to work well and I'm never worried that he won't have enough to eat while I'm at work.
