Parenting after a Loss

Stupid MIL vent

So the in-laws watched Cora Sat-Sun. We always send Cora with her own food, snacks and milk because MIL always tries to feed Cora crap that she shouldn't have. This time she wanted to give her a hot dog and last time she fed her something with nuts in it. We called Sat evening to see how things were going and MIL said everything was fine. MIL called Sunday morning because Cora was suddenly sick with the poops/throwing up and said this all started Saturday afternoon. WTF? Why didn't she say anything when we called? We know MIL probably fed her crap which caused this because she sent back all the food we sent for Cora to eat. We were thinking about going to Mexico next Oct and leaving the kids with the ln-laws but now we are having second thoughts because MIL just does what she wants and totally disrecpects our wishes.

Re: Stupid MIL vent

  • That would really bug me, especially since you sent food. That's making it pretty obvious.

Anyone else you can leave the kids with?

  • Ew, I feel your pain. My MIL has never watched LO, and I'm not sure when I will be ready for her to, although I know DH won't let me put it off forever. This may sound funny, but she wouldn't even respect my wishes when watching our (very high maintenance, finicky, small) dogs. She feeds them treats when I tell her their tummies can't handle them, she doesn't secure them in an area when she leaves the house like I ask, etc. etc. I know it's not the same, but I think if she can't even follow directions with the dogs, what will she do with my kid?? LOL. Anyway, I'd be so pissed if I were you. What's your DH say? Does he tell her anything?

  • GAHHH!!  I totally understand your frustration!  My MIL is ok with the food thing, but she blatantly disregards many other things we tell her.  It's so annoying, there aren't even words to describe it.  Has your DH talked to her?  Maybe if he did, you'd still have a shot at going to Mexico?

  • DH has talked to her before because she never sticks to the nap and bedtime schedule. We get Cora back and she's totally off schedule and a mess for a few days. He'll have to talk to her about the food thing again and maybe we'll just have my mom watch the kids.
