I didn't buy a sanitizer, I was just planning on putting things in the dishwasher. Is this a no no for the first wash? Am I supposed to wash with soap? Or just put in boiling water? How long do you put in boiling water?
My infant care class never covered this LOL

Re: s/o washing bottles and pacifiers
Thanks! Silly DH was helping get things ready and he threw away the boxes and isntructions that came with our Tommee Tipsee bottles!!
I am sure there are instructions online though.
I wonder why you still have to wash bottles before using the sterilizer?
Oh and thanks for the tip on the microsteam bags for the pump parts! I didn't think of that.

You have to wash them to get the milk/formula out. The sterilizer can't sterilize the actual yucky stuff that gets left behind in the bottle.
Is it the same for the dishwasher? Sorry for my ignorance on this subject

No. I wouldn't use a dishwasher for plastic bottles though. It tends to etch them and make them look nasty. Also my dishwasher doesn't tend to wash tall, skinny things well.
If you have a dishwasher with a "sterilize" setting you can use that, just don't add detergent.
This is just to sterilize the bottles though, not a replacement for cleaning out the formula and other goo.
This.
I rinsed my bottles out with hot soapy water and then boiled them for however long the package said to. After that, I'd rinse them out with water, put them in the dishwasher with detergent on the sanitize cycle and they'd come out clean and clear. I use Dr. Brown's, FWIW. I've also used the Playtex Ventaires and I really like those, but that was 3 years ago and they weren't BPA free then... so now I use Dr. Brown's BPA free and since I already have 12 from when DS was a baby, I'll get new nipples and use them again.
This. They never got quite clean enough in the dishwasher with all those little parts (Dr. Browns).
