CD Moms or anyone with overnight diaper help

Keira is soaking through Huggies Overnights and I just don't know what to do. The problem is she sleeps on her tummy with her butt in the air and everything runs to the front of the diaper and down her tummy. I have tried a bigger diaper size up and several brands. The huggies are the only diapers that don't completely blow but they still leak and it's getting worse.

Do you think that cloth would possibly help contain it or am I just screwed because of the position she sleeps and the amount of pee. Seriously, you could break a window with one of her diapers it's so heavy. I just don't know what to do at this point.

Re: CD Moms or anyone with overnight diaper help

  • To gear up for potty training (hopefully) in the coming months, we've stopped giving Holly anything to drink after dinner (we eat around 5:45, and she goes to bed at 7:30ish). Her diapers are still wet in the mornings, but nowhere near as wet as they used to be. Have you tried that?

No help on the diapers, as we've had luck with the Huggies ON's.

  • OMG - I could have written this post too!  We are having the worst time with night time diapering.  Every single morning she's soaked.  We used to use Target for overnight and they were fine until recently- now we're in Huggies Overnights (size 4 which are HUGE on her) and she's soaked though.  Not sure why she's all of a sudden a super huge wetter.

I'm going to bust out the cloth tonight and see if that helps.  The other option I'm considering is to get some wool longies to put over her diaper.  Wool wicks pee and absorbs it w/o leaking out.  They're a tad expensive, but I am SO sick of her waking up soaking wet (esp when it's so cool outside)!

  • If you try cloth, go with a microfiber & hemp insert in a pocket diaper. This works best for us overnight and J is a heavy wetter. Since she sleeps on her tummy, I'd fold the hemp over a couple of times in the front (which is what I do for J, but for anatomical reasons).

    Good luck!!

if you can do basic sewing, you can easily make some wool longies out of wool sweater sleeves and some elastic.

check out this blog for some instructions.  it was seriously easy!  i made mine from wool sweaters i got at good will for 4.50 a piece!  and i've got enough left over to make at least 1-2 soakers per sweater.  just depends on how much they shrink when you felt the sweaters.

  • I'd second the microfiber inserts if you've already invested in CDing. I don't know if I'd jump into CD'ing if I was in your spot, just because you're likely close to potty training. The exception I'd make is if you were planning on having a second munchkin, then it might be worth it.

The other option is to buy just the inserts and see if that helps and put the inserts in the disposable. (or try one of the inexpensive systems - gDiapers or flip.) If you want to play with a CD, I'd highly suggest SmartMomma's in Raleigh if you're close enough. They've got a great selection and will let you play with the diapers to get an idea of what you might like. We went there when we got started.

On that note: we use the BumGenius line, specifically the BG 3.0's which have been phased out with their new latest & greatest 4.0's. I love them, I've only had one leak (and that was likely due to the force of the poo & the way I was holding her). The other nice thing is they come with a full size & newborn insert, and the newborn insert is recommended to be added to the full size in the pocket for overnights for heavy wetters. Feel free to PAN me if you want more info.

  • I use Pampers ON diapers, size 4 and they haven't leaked yet. Zoe also sleeps on her stomach with her butt in the air. The size 4's are a bit big, but you can cross the tabs in the front. GL!
