TTC and got off the pill

Hey girls,

So last week i decided to leave the pill right when my period started. I was on the pill since i got married in January. I took advantage and got off the pill the same day i got my period which was not schedule. Now this week i'll be ovulating.

Did anyone have trouble getting pregnant when they got off the pill?

Thanks girls!

Re: TTC and got off the pill

  • I don't have personal experience with coming off the pill and getting pregnant but I have seen plenty of cases in this scenario. According to "the books", it may take a while for your cycle to adjust, hence taking longer to get pregnant. BUT real life experiences have shown me that it really just depends. Some people may struggle, but some women's fertility comes back with a vengeance (kind of like when a woman stops breastfeeding). Good luck with TTC!!!

  • It took me 50+ days to ovulate the first time I got off the pill, then 35ish days the next cycle, and then finally on the cycle I got pregnant I ovulated on the 20-somethingish day. I think if I hadn't gotten pregnant when I did, after a few more cycles I could have regulated and gone back to a more average-lengthed cycle.

  • I came off a medically induced menopause and got pregnant my first cycle. Believe it or not, we nailed it on the first ovulation and I never even got my period. Where as others I know took a few cycles to get pregnant.

Exactly what PP said - it all depends on the person and their cycle.

    Good luck!

  • I got pregnant, with twins! We used the withdrawl method b/c we were not planning on having kids quite yet, but figured if I got pregnant a little earlier than planned it would be fine. I got pregnant immediatetly. :-)
  • Like PPs said, it all depends. I was on the pill for years and years, and took it continuously (i.e., never stopping to have the withdrawal "period") to help control endometriosis. I got pregnant the first cycle off the pill, but it was a chemical pregnancy. Then I got pregnant right away again, but that was a missed miscarriage. Then I had another early loss a few months after that. But then two cycles later I got pregnant again and that one has stuck. I'm not saying any of this was due to just getting off the pill, but that's how it happened for me.

Good luck! I know it's hard, but don't be discouraged if it takes your body a little while to get back on track. Hormones do crazy things and a little patience goes a long way, IMO.
